Adamantine "Starfall Steel"

Made from the ferrous remain of shooting stars near Heaven’s Landing, starfall steel smelts and quenches into a dark grey metal. This worked meteoric steel is known for the intense heat it naturally produces requiring sheathes made of certain hides to keep wielder’s clothes from igniting. In battle, weapons forged of this metal often cause small explosions emitting heat and sparks.

History & Usage

History

While very rare today, the elven smiths of Otway were the only known craftsmen able to forge it.

Refinement

Speculation from a supposed gnome smiths suggests that starfall steel can only be cast in subzero temperatures. As for its purposed abilities, scholars argue this ‘divine steel’ may result from infernal enchantments near the frozen hells of the Marbled Sea.

Adamantine

Adamantine is an ultrahard metal found in meteorites and extraordinary mineral veins. In addition to being used to craft adamantine armor, the metal is also used for weapons. Melee weapons and ammunition made of or coated with adamantine are unusually effective when used to break objects. Whenever an adamantine weapon or piece of ammunition hits an object, the hit is a critical hit.
The adamantine version of a melee weapon or of ten pieces of ammunition costs 500 gp more than the normal version, whether the weapon or ammunition is made of the metal or coated with it.
