Arc Two: Session Three

General Summary

Eventually, Maud calls down into the basement. The rains have eased up and she is leaving, so they are to lock up. The group (sans the sleeping Cal) consider why the storm has eased now. Ready to head off to the library, Avery takes another shot at easing up the rest of Cal's injuries, which already appear to be healing themselves at an interesting rate, but can be helped by Avery's magic as well. Waking up, Cal asks Liz if she could help them find some armour as they get more rest.   On the way to the library, Liz makes some calls. Owen starts looking for something to fit the bill. The library is packed with students staying out of the rain. Avery and Liz get straight into finding anything about an undead creature (even in the form of mythology) that fits the bill of the monster Cal attacked. Liz notes someone else looking in the same area: Sully.   Liz confronts him, but Sully is having none of it. He closes his book and keeps it out of the way, while Sting slips out of the dagger and tries to get a look at what Sully is checking out. Liz asks to see it, but Sully claims not to be done with it and walks away. Sting mentions it is a book on Nordic mythology, so as to start looking into Nordic undead. Avery finds what fits the bill: Draugr.   An employee of the library comes up to Liz, as apparently Sully mentioned she was bothering him. Liz attempts to say she was only asking about the book, but between her and Avery, neither really help their case out too much. The librarian gives the warning and leaves. Taking care, Liz and Avery look through the roster for a Norse Mythology professor, but there is none. Avery decides they can look into a different bookstore, where they have gotten their books from in the past. Everly Bookshop. The owner has a lot of interest in mythology and magic, though Avery doesn't know how much of it is hobby and how much he actually believes. However, it is late, so checking in with Blaise Everly has to wait until the next day.   Meanwhile, Cal gets up and does their own research. They do not find anything specifically on draugr, but they do find a magical ritual meant to handle dispersing unnatural atmospheric phenomena. When the other two return, they exchange information once more before Liz and Avery head homeward. Cal remains in the basement to rest. Liz finds that Therese has prepared her home for the Great Flood. Avery gets back to Callie making soup for her two roommates who have definitely been caught out in the rain.
The next day, the three meet up at the bookstore. Avery introduces Liz and Cal to Blaise, who is willing to give the newcomers the benefit of the doubt because they have come with a favourite customer. When asked, Blaise immediately goes into draugar, answering the group's questions. In the end, he tells them that draugar can be killed many times, but there are a few ways to make sure they remain dead.   Blaise brings out a book for Avery to buy on the subject. Liz asks for a book on magic messing with memories, and Blaise has her fill out a request form. Cal asks for an accurate book to explain half-demons, which Blaise brings out. Liz then also brings out her phone to show pictures of the mysterious language she had found in the house. Blaise identifies it as Miynnayn, though he doesn't know much about it. He says he can look into someone who might be able to translate it for her though. The last book Avery asks for is something to help them understand what Sting's deal is, and Blaise offers a book on the binding of demons - as he doesn't believe an item used as a conduit would likely contain anything else.   Avery heads off to their work at the University Hospital, while Cal goes to take some jobs Maud got in to clean up from the storm of yesterday. Liz takes a case that Therese normally would jump on, were she healed, to get photos of someone's infidelity. Owen is close to getting Cal's armor, in talks with someone over some police riot gear about Cal's measurements.   When Cal has a chance to look into his book, he finds that it is rather judgmental about demons who are forced to act on impulses, putting them beneath those who require feeding on something specific, and the person who made out notes in the margins appears to agree with that.   Avery looks into their book on demonic binding, though isn't sure what of it, if any, might apply to Sting's situation.
