Cult of Death

"My own cult was very small, and this was for a few reasons. All in all, I had smaller pool to choose from. While three of my children had produced several offspring, Dyris only had one child, and he only had one ‘child’, though Ellra wasn’t exactly a typical offspring. Ellra had created a few, and those few had created a handful, but they were still a very small population. More importantly, people simply were not very enthusiastic about death, and to be honest, I didn’t blame them. Still, there were enough mortals that either tried to extend their life through my favor, or actually appreciated that my role was an important one, even if it wasn’t entirely pleasant. Also, I knew that everyone would eventually come to my realm, sooner or later, so I could wait. Frankly, I didn’t need many living followers at all."

Structure

The cult of Death is a fairly small cult divided into three cells, each of which is based from the three holy sites of Mynoris: two shrines and one major temple. Every cell is led by a High Priest. The Temple communicates with each Shrine Cell, but the cells do not communicate with each other. There are no holy orders or monasteries connected to the cult.

Public Agenda

The goal of the Cult is to bring peace to the dying and facilitate their journey into the Realms of the Dead. Their motivation is just to do their Goddess' bidding.

Assets

The Cult of Mynoris is not a very wealthy one; they don't focus on collecting regular tithes. They charge a pittance for most of their services, except for anything to do with wills or escorting bodies. However, they won't refuse donations to their temple or shrine. The priests are not paid, except for the High Priests, and usually the members of the organization have other jobs on the side.

History

When all the Gods started accepting a handful of followers, so did Mynoris. The cult grew slower than most other faiths because very few people were interested in venerating death. It stayed neutral during the War of the Faiths and most of the members went into hiding during this time.

Divine Origins

Like the other Gods, Mynoris herself set down the teachings and beliefs of her religion. She determined these by reflecting on the state of the dead already in her realm, and the best way to guide mortals into a state of mind to ease their transition between being alive and being dead.

Cosmological Views

Mynoris generally believes in telling things as they are, so her faith has a fairly clear idea of how creation began, or, at the very least, it understands how the world was created and how the Gods came to be.

Tenets of Faith

Death is a natural part of life, and should not be feared for itself. The death of the young should be in nature's hands alone; not in the hands of mortals. Death is holy, but suffering is not; the way into death should be eased. Worshiping death does not mean creating death; taking the lives of others needlessly is not Mynoris' desire. Death comes to all, regardless of station; do not treat people differently based on their wealth, class, or Tribe.

Worship

The Cult of Death believes in practical worship, which is divided into two tasks. The first is the proper care for the dead, or dying, and is highly ritualistic. This includes final confessions, the execution of wills, or the escorting of a body home when someone dies abroad. They also do work on burial sites. The second is delivering euthanasia to those who ask for it. While very few people worship in this faith, almost everyone will accept the last administration of the cult members, though cultures differ on whether the euthanasia is acceptable.

Political Influence & Intrigue

Members of the cult are discouraged from affiliating with other political bodies in the name of Mynoris. As private citizens they are free to dabble in politics or intrigue, but they are not allowed to use their faith as part of their platform. Wearing any sort of ceremonial clothing for the Cult in any capacity other than as a cultist is grounds for removal from the cult.   The cult doesn't attract a lot of members, and in times of strife, it can actually attract a lot of negative attention. This makes it's influence rather small, unless the cultists are needed to preside over a death ritual.
