Dwarves
Religion
Dwarves, even the surface folk, tend to not worship any non-dwarven gods. There is a quit animosity between the dwarves and most of the gods with a belief that they are less favoured by the gods than the other races. This belief is not entirely unfounded. For example no dwarf in recorded history has ever received the blessings of Fumin despite there culture very much aligning with the god. The exception to this scepticism is the dwarf population that makes up a large part of the Movanic Monastery who worship all kinds of gods.Civilization and Culture
Common Etiquette Rules
Respect for your elders is everything in Dwarven socity.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
The culture for mountain Dwarves is verry hierarchical in nature. It boils down to working for your elders for hunderds of years to earn your place as an elder one day.
History
Dwarves are the precursors of this world and the oldest race on Briar. Long long ago at the beginnings of known history the dwarves emerged from underground to the barren wasteland that would later become Troïka Over centuries they expanded forging great holds in the mountains for if they ventured into the planes the dragons would get them. One day their holds would be tested as the Dragons arrogantly wanted to erase dwarvenkind for darring to make it to their surface. With a great spell the dragons amplified their physical forms unto monstrous degrees whilst in turn sacrificing their souls. They would lose their cunning speech there verry mind all for great power. Yet they also lost what was most important, purpose. The only thing any dragon now wanted was to kill every dwarf that dared breach their domain. This led to an ages-long assault against dwarvenkind. This led to their society as a whole centering around survival in their mountain home and made most refuse to leave it. Not all were set on fighting the Dragon’s. Some believed the Surface world was cursed and they should move as far as possible from it. These retreated even deeper into the Earth and later became duergar. Years and years later when the dragons were wiped out and other civilizations started to pop up only a few dwarves ventured out being scorned by their kindred with marks forged in fire.
These days there are larger clusters of dwarves above ground but they are still relatively small in number. Its quite rare to see one except in some major cities. However these dwarves have still made their dissent a core part of their culture. Virtually every dwarf that lives above ground has been branded (mostly through tattoos) to show their surface dwelling nature. This is seen by most on the surface as an act of defiance to reclaim their symbol of exile. Although there of the same race Dwarves on the surface share almost no cultural values with mountain Dwarves instead assimilating the local culture.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
The mountain Dwarves tend to be solititairy but not unhospitable. They are verry hospitable to travels that arive at there holds but are insistant they never stay longer than a week. Only those that show great value and respect for the dwarven culture are allowed to actualy live with them. Due to this they have had decent relationship with most other races with the exceptions of the Humans. Humans see the Dwarves as greedy for not sharing the spoils from there mountain holds and the Dwarves see Humans as needy freeloaders who don't wanna put in the hard work necesairy.
