Shoanti

The Shoanti are an ancient nomadic culture from the the once secluded shore of Eastern Quarren . After The Breaking  leveled the coastal atolls and collapsed the heartland, the Shoanti where driven inland by desperate refugees and settlers.   The seven quahs (clans) of the Shoanti have long been a thorn in the side of civilized society in Quarren. Even before the breaking, their people harassed and harried the settlements and villages of the old empire from hideouts in the mountains and jungles. Known for their warlike nature and proud traditions, the Shoanti claim much of Quarren as their birthright that was stolen from them by the old empire. A disparate people, bound together by honor and tradition, the Shoanti share a history steeped in conflict, from their brutally heroic legends to the defeats of the last 700 years and the harshness of their modern lives. Shaped by strife, the Shoanti are stalwart, tenacious, and suspicious people, oath-sworn to regain all that was once theirs and honor-bound to avenge themselves against all schemers who would dare call them barbarians.   The essence of “Shoanti” is more of a set of warrior traditions steeped in mysticism than it is a true racial group. While by and large most Shoanti are humans, members of other races who can brave the wastes and prove themselves useful to the quah (clan) find a home after some persistence. As such, a small number of dwarves, half-elves, and half-orcs on occasion live among the Shoanti. Shoanti possess incredible stock of hearty warriors well suited to the various hell-scaped and wastelands that make up Quarren’s interior. Almost all Shoanti are vigorous, with powerful builds. Hair is considered a dangerous weakness in hand-to-hand combat, and both men and women typically shave their heads, save for shamans or the elderly. Some young Shoanti men and women forgo this practice as a sign that they are not bound to another and seek a companion.

Major organizations

The Shoanti peoples are largely divided into seven Quahs or clans. Though they all share common heritage, they are quite diferent from eachother, a fact that often leads to high tension or even outright conflict.
