Kalyani family

The Kalyani family is a relatively young power in Port Hawe, born from the Narayana Family’s distancing from the vices that once thrived in the city. As the Narayana Family shifted to more sophisticated ventures, the Kalyani family saw an opportunity in the growing demand for indulgence and vice. They quickly carved out a space in the southern part of the city, capitalizing on the influx of sailors, travelers, and the common folk in need of release. Their expertise in gambling, brothels, and other vices helped them secure their foothold, turning the Lantern District into a bustling center for luxury and indulgence.   Believers in the power of luck, the Kalyanis are known for their association with fortune and chance, often employing soothsayers, bone tossers, and ceremonial practices to "stack the odds" in their favor. Their wealth, though vast, is tied almost entirely to their vice-related businesses, with most of their income coming from the operations of gambling dens, brothels, and other such establishments. The Kalyani family is not involved in racketeering or protection schemes, instead focusing on facilitating indulgence and festivals that make Port Hawe famous. Their influence grows with each passing year as they remain a pillar of the city's entertainment and excess.   While the Kalyanis maintain a relatively neutral stance with the other families, they are sometimes viewed as upstarts by the Narayana, who regard them as a clingy sibling. The Yamazaki Family, though disdainful of the extravagance of the Kalyani's vices, hold a certain contempt for those who fall prey to their indulgence. The Kalyanis are generally well-liked by the public, who enjoy the opportunities for revelry without the burden of excessive racketeering or overbearing protection schemes. However, their thugs are seen as the most loose and prone to self-indulgence, often causing trouble behind the scenes.   The family is led by three cousins—Tao, Liang, and Jin—who took control after their parents’ passing. Their leadership has been marked by internal strife, as the three cousins struggle to reconcile their differing visions for the family’s future. Although the Kalyani family had once hoped to expand into nearby cities, these efforts have faltered, and the future of the family’s ambitions remains uncertain. The internal conflicts between the cousins threaten to undo the stability the family once enjoyed, leaving their future as a formidable power in Port Hawe unclear.
