Cult of The Eye

This dark, weird and relatively young religion centers its worship on the permanent hurricane that appeared following The Breaking almost 800 years ago. Its practices and doctrines are carefully guarded from the uninitiated, but outsiders have gleaned a few things from its itinerant clerics. First, followers believe The Eye to be the birth pangs of a new deity (sometimes called the Deluged God), who will eventually emerge from the storms to inundate all the landmasses of Breon with a devastating flood. Sacrifices to this gestating power are intended to persuade it to spare some few places, along with the faithful, and prepare the world for life on the global oceans-to-be.

Every worshiper is expected to make at least one pilgrimage to the hidden Isle of Consummations as proof of devotion. Rumor has it that not just the blood of animals is spilled on the god’s altars, and some speculate that the cult is behind the mysterious disappearances of lonely beggars and drunks. There are at least seven shrines to the Deluged God scattered around the path of Gwenhael's Eye, and its priests sail in small crafts around The Shattered Seas, engaged in wild-eyed, apocalyptic evangelism, led by their mysterious high priest, Father Chessadarde, who claims to have received his divine visions from the Deluged God after sailing into the heart of The Eye itself. Thus far the cult’s priests have won few converts beyond Hell's Harbor, but nearby temples to other faiths keep close watch on the new cult, deeply concerned about its ultimate intentions.

Divine Origins

The true origins of the Cult of the Eye are shrouded in mystery. Some believe that the earliest prophets were simple sailors driven mad from near fatal encounters with Gwenhael's Eye. Others hold that the cult is a twisted off-shoot of some long-dead Ghul-Gan religion. What ever the case is, the religion was first documented early 723 CE. The focus of the cult has always been on Gwenhael's Eye as a herald or avatar of some sleeping or unborn god. Interpretations of The Eye's movements vary within the sect, some seeing doom in the violent thrashing of the storm surge while others see the serenity of the storm's eye as a benediction.

The high priest claims to have founded the religion after sailing into the heart of Gwenhael's Eye and recieving visions from the Deluged God sleeping therein.

Granted Divine Powers

The Cult of the Eye appears to have some divine or otherworldly blessings though they seem erratic and underdeveloped compared to other major religious factions. Most predominant among them is an uncanny sense for the weather, particularly concerning storms. Some other manifestations of power include minor prophecies; influencing local weather; and, on one rare occasion, walking on water.
