House Cat

Everybody... everybody... everybody wants to be a cat!   House cats are a cute, cuddly, popular breed of mundane animals.  Sometimes they're confused with lesser cait sidhes, but similarities to their magical cousins don't make it past surface level.  Cats are popular pets and most make good companions.  They're also easier to rehabilitate from feral than dogs.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

House cats don't hybridize with very many species.  Lesser cait sidhe and a few small wildcats are among the few able to breed with them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Cats are obligate carnivores.  They must consume muscle tissue or they will eventually go blind and die.  Cats have pretty high hunt success rates compared to many land predators, and there is a particular species of cat that holds the record for highest hunt success rate, period.  Cats will hunt and kill things even if they are well-fed at home.  They are one of the few non-person creatures known to hunt for fun.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Cats are often kept around to control pests, such as mice and rats.

Average Intelligence

The average house cat is about as intelligent as a human toddler.  The average orange cat is about as intelligent as a goldfish (must be the color that does it, truly).

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Cats can "see the unseen", by means not well understood.  That doesn't mean it's impossible to sneak up on, or around, cats just because they can maybe see you when you're invisible.  They might not truly see the unseen, they might just be able to hear and smell them.  The undeniable truth though, is that they can see shades and spirits even when living mortals cannot.

Civilization and Culture

Common Myths and Legends

Cats are believed to have a deep connection to magic and fey folk, despite being mundane animals.  It goes beyond merely having the same physical appearance as lesser cait sidhe, with some house cats having nigh identical appearances to the fey cats.  They are able to see shades and spirits, even when they are not manifesting themselves for mortal eyes.  It is rumored they can see invisible creatues.  However, shades and spirits are not invisible when they are not visible, but rather, on the other side of the veil; in the land of the dead.  Those who know that belive cats are able to look past the veil and see into the land of the dead, with some people believing cats can guide the dead to the afterlife.

Lifespan

Conservation Status
Though not explicitly protected, cats are unique among the mundane animal species. They share a deep connection with fey, and an uncanny ability to see what isn't there. There are no species of sapient people who eat cats, and the only people who harm them are sadistic bastards. Cats go freely among humans, fey and undead with no fear of being harmed. No one knows exactly how or why cats enjoy such privilege.

Perks
Lucky
Once per game session, in a moment of need, you can call on luck to shine upon you. The GM decides what form this luck takes. For example, an attack that was meant for you might target an ally instead, you may discover a secret passage to escape from a rolling boulder, or a local law enforcement officer decides to overlook your crime because you happen to have grown up on the same street.

Resilient
You are exceptionally difficult to kill or wear down. Once per game session, you can automatically succeed a Fortitude action roll of Challenge Rating less than or equal to 10 + twice your Fortitude score.
Flaws
Stubborn
It's your way or the highway. Maybe not all of the time, but once you've made your mind up on an important matter, you won't budge. You probably won't even compromise.

Cowardly
You have honed self-preservation into a way of life, and you will do almost anything to avoid danger, pain, and death. Sometimes, the situation at hand and the pumping of adrenaline will lead you to perform acts that appear courageous, but sooner or later your cowardly nature will emerge. You are easy to intimidate and you will almost assuredly crack under interrogation. In combat, you can still choose to fight, but you will attempt to distance yourself as much as possible from harm's way, even if it means leaving an ally in a tough spot.
