Lore
King of
Goblins, Jareth is revered by many as their creator. Born as a manifestation of the
Feywild, Jareth desires worship both to honor him and to spread his own brand of chaos throughout the planes.
It is said that when Jareth saw the first Goblinoids, he was disgusted by them. Repulsed by the creatures, he sent them out into the planes with a single directive:
"Prove yourselves worthy of my love."
However, Jareth did not actually create Goblinoids, though many of them think he did. In truth, Jareth was created by their belief in his existence. But he has no desire for anyone to correct those who "incorrectly" think this.
Many
Bugbear and
Hobgoblin have moved away from the worship of Jareth, having learned that all his deals and boons come with too high a cost. Goblins, however, being the weaker of the three, still desperately seek to prove themselves worthy of his admiration and, more importantly, his gifts in an effort to raise themselves above the others.
Role in the Feywild
Jareth serves within the
Unseelie Court, aligning with its chaotic and darker tendencies. His chaotic nature makes him a fitting member, and he revels in spreading mischief, terror, and disorder.
Personality
Jareth is both unpredictable and manipulative, often playing with the emotions and ambitions of those around him. He is vain and seeks validation through the acts of his followers, yet also relishes in their suffering and failures. His love for chaos is unparalleled, and his scheming never truly ceases. Mortals and Fey alike are merely pawns in his complex web of trickery and chaos.
Followers and Worship
Though many Goblinoids worship Jareth as their creator, his true desire is for them to spread chaos and destruction across the planes. Goblinoid warbands, cults, and tribes often rally around the belief that Jareth watches over them, and they attempt to prove themselves worthy of his "love" by engaging in acts of violence and chaos.
The chaotic nature of his worship can be seen in the unpredictable and often violent tendencies of his followers, who seek to draw his favor through destruction and trickery.
Abilities
As a powerful Fey Lord, Jareth commands an array of magical abilities, primarily focused on illusion, deception, and manipulation. He is capable of twisting the minds of mortals, turning them into his unwilling agents of chaos. He also has power over Goblinoids, whom he can command with his voice alone.
Jareth is known to delight in mischief, and his power extends over the domains of chaos, trickery, and manipulation, making him a dangerous and unpredictable force both in the
Feywild and beyond.
Outsider Deity
Jareth is counted among the
Outsider Deities, those gods who do not belong to the Prime Pantheon. While he is widely revered among Goblinoids, other races regard him with fear and loathing, knowing that his gifts always come with a price too high to pay.
