Southern mansions

In the south, rainfall is not as much of an issue than scorching heat. From Amaal to Aarden, from Lemiit to Siiem, people have tried to fight the head by building adapted infrastructures. Southern mansions designate a type of large house very well suited to escaping the sun and heat.
Such houses are built in squares or rectangles, with a small central courtyard. The courtyard is often on a lower level than the street, so that it keeps cold while warm air coming from the openings goes upwards. The courtyard is covered in a series of drapes which let air flow while keeping the center in the shade. As warm air goes up, it pulls colder air from the basement.
The house itself is often covered with clear coating, but it depends on the region. In Amaal, local stucco is used on most buildings, rendering them almost white. On the other hand, in Aarden, the use of colours from pinkish to camel is the norm. The shapes of roof covers also vary from place to place: on the eastern coast, roofs are built to be tall and steep, because it has shown to give better cooling effect from the strong coastal winds. However, in Amaal, flatter roofs are priviledged to reflect heat upwards and not towards the ground.
Southern houses can have up to four floors, and thus be pretty spacious. While only the richest can afford an entire house for themselves, most people live in shared house, for one house can house up to two dozens small apartments. these house have been around for almost a millenia, and apart from minor advancements, have stayed pretty much the same since then, because noone has found more confortable architecture yet.
