Culture
A strong love for fish led the Tabaxi in Purajiza to take to the sea. Most of their cuisine is centered around fish and different ways to accompany and spice it.
Many Stars, an ancient prophet who led the Tabaxi to Purajiza, would eventually announce the Tabaxi gods dead except for Mystra Masa Taph La'iz, a god of magic, who survived the slaughter of the Catfolk gods by hiding flat under a magical carpet. Tabaxi in Purajiza, especially the south, near Takmanamu, are mostly not religious, having believed Mystra Masa Taph La'iz sacrificed himself so that they could arrive safely at the shores of Purajiza. However, the Sami believe that in sacrificing himself, Mystra Masa Taph La'iz ascended to even greater godhood and spawned new gods, and they worship all these gods devoutly.

History
The story of Purajiza as Purajizan parents tell their children:
Many moons ago, the Tabaxi people exclusively inhabited a series of jungle islands in the Uncharted West. They lived in a very peaceful, matrilineal society and built little villages in the midst of the lush tropical jungles and sandy white beaches. However, they were perpetually tormented by the Yuan-Ti who would frequently raid and attempt to enslave these peace-loving Catfolk. One day, the queen of the Tabaxis, Many Stars, was told in a vivid dream that she should take her people to the "greatest island crowned with a mountain made of fire." She was told that the Tabaxi would be free there to build a great civilization the likes of which had never been seen. Her people trusted her to be a great seer and a healer, and most wanted to escape the terrible oppression of the Yuan-Ti so they agreed to leave. A few stayed behind, to this day nobody knows what became of them.
The Tabaxi built many longboats and set out on the perilous journey. Using the visions from her dreams and deep meditation, Many Stars helped her people navigate to the vast island continent of Fiewskri, which at the time was a wild place, inhabited by only by Giraffefolk, Loxodon and numerous beasts. They settled into the place that would eventually become Takmanamu. They had to defend themselves from numerous pirates and sea creatures, but the Tabaxi who survived became stronger and smarter. They eventually learned skills and trades. They learned to barter with the ships that made their way to their shores, they built houses and commerce and eventually developed the great society that was promised to them. As time went on the Tabaxi of Takmanamu began to forget the "old ways", although the seasonal festivals were a way for many of them to get back in touch with their more feral sides, if you will.
There were Tabaxi who wanted to be more exclusive with their feline society. They disapproved of mingling with other races, remembering too well the terrible oppression of the Yuan-Ti. They criticized their fellow Tabaxi for trying to become "too human" with their development of military, their free trade, etc. Some eventually made an exodus to the mountains in order to keep their bloodline "pure". They settled in the mountain stronghold that would eventually become Sam'aljabal.
The mountain Tabaxi, or Sami maintained a very strict societal code and lived to "go back to the old ways". They dressed in robes and wore elaborate jewelry. They built impressive stone temples to their God and worshipped all things feline and the sun. They allowed neither misery, poverty or unemployment and built a mountain utopia of sorts, far from the common rabble of the seaside Capital.
