Greenfen Forest

The Greenfen is a large, dense forest in the Kingdom of Nonapova, in the north of the Tippitulian Peninsula. The veil between worlds is said to be thin within the area and there are dozens of known Fey Crossings as well as hundreds of unknown ones. A group of druids known as the Circle of Breath lives inside the Greenfen, close to the border with the Greyfen Swamp.

Geography

The forest is located in the northern part of Tippitulia, on the southern end of the country of Nonapova. It sits next to the Greyfen. The entire area of the Greenfen is around 160 square miles. Combined together with the Greyfen, they make up about 340 square miles. To the north, the Silva River runs west to east, with a number of tributaries extending from the Greenfen and Greyfen. The forest runs right up to the rocky cliffs of the shore, where one can see the Sea of Letters.

Ecosystem

The Greenfen is part old-growth and part new forest. The closer to the center one travels, the older the trees. There are a number of tributaries of the Silva running through the area, many of which are mostly underground. The rivers and the proximity to the Greyfen make the Greenfen generally wetter than most forests. A diverse number of animals and plants can be found there in the temperate forest.

Localized Phenomena

There are portals to the Feywild found throughout both the Greenfen and Greyfen. Most portals are not permanent, but there are some that are known to the locals.

Climate

The northern area of Tippitulia where the forest is located is generally temperate, on the slightly warmer side. There is average rainfall, but the multiple tributaries of the Silva make the area relatively wet.

Natural Resources

The Greenfen is home to large Yew trees that are valued for their balance between strength and flexibility. They are ideal for making bows and certain types of druidic armor.

History

The Greenfen has been a sacred site to elves for most of living memory. It is said that there are trees in the center that were planted by the first elves in Tippitulia. During the time of the Yuan-Ti occupation, parts of the forest were burned down. But the Yuan-Ti never reached the oldest trees in the center. Some say that Dryads who live within picked trees to become overgrown in the path of the Yuan-Ti as a sacrifice to save the rest of the forest.

For a long time, the human kingdom of Nonapova has respected the forest's sacred place to the elves, but more recently, tensions have risen as the humans greedily eye the valuable lumber so close by.

Tourism

There are tourists who visit the forest for the beauty and the Elvish Festival Camps. Many pass through Wildrest.
