Siren Species in Blood Well | World Anvil

Siren

Beware the Sirens' bewitching songs. Their sweet voices whisper only honeyed poison. Do not fall prey to their enchantments.

Charlatans and Con Artists in life, these Souls have inherited and perfected their predatory charisma. They gather around the banks of the River Styx, singing promises of great rewards to any Soul willing to listen. What they actually promise the unfortunate Soul is doom.   Sirens are closely related to the smaller, meanspirited Harpies and the fragile, mimicking Lyres.

Chorus of Temptation

Sirens have taken on the forms of attractive men and women, tall, slender and lithe, with skin that run the full natural range of tones. At first glance it is easy to mistake them for humans wrapped in cloaks, but as one steps closer towards them one will begin to notice the warning signs, if they are not already enthralled by their enchanting chorus. They have delicate, almost avian features, with fine feathers sprouting from their heads like short cropped hair and running down their forearms. What at first appears to be a cloak wrapped around their bodies are in fact wings, with colours ranging from swan white, to raven black, or a myriad shades of dappled browns and tans reminiscent of various small songbirds.

Song of the Styx

A Siren's preferred hunting ground is along the banks of the Styx. They will lounge about on raised outcrops of rocks, singing their sinister melodies with beautiful voices and simply crafted instruments. Souls so enchanted will stumble towards them, too entranced to recognise their doom until the Siren pounces on them tearing their essence to shreds and beginning to feed.   Sirens are cowardly by nature, and will flee on the first sign of aggression, or on the suspicion that their prey is not truly enthralled. Lying still on the rocks with their attentions directed away from the Styx makes them easy prey for the Persephone Comb snail, who can sneak up undetected and spear them with a javelin. Some of the more intelligent Sirens will group together in pairs in order to watch each other's backs, though this inevitably leads to jealous squabbling over any prey they catch.
