Hexcraft in Blood Well | World Anvil

Hexcraft

To perform a Hex, it is not enough for one to possess the speed of diving bird and the precision of one who can thread a needle at a thousand paces. One must also have the courage of a thousand lion prides to see it through in the face of the fiercest adversity.

Hexcraft is a magical form unique to the Land of the Dead. A Hex is a sequence of six gestures performed in swift succession, where upon the completion of the sixth gesture the Hex's magic will take effect.   It is believed that Hexcraft is derived from the study of the Hexes used by the Corpse Bee, who are capable of instantaneously performing a Hex by gesturing with all six of their legs simultaneously.   There are exactly thirty six known Hexes that are possible for a Soul with two arms to perform, though Corpse Bees have been observed to be capable of performing forty six thousand, six hundred, and fifty six unique Hexes.   Hexcraft shares many similarities with various forms of martial arts, and as such practitioners often practise both. Practising martial arts helps build up the speed, dexterity, and endurance needed to perform Hexes, and often a swift punch is faster to perform than a complex Hex can ever be.
