Tenne Runegust

Originally of Whiteneedle, Tenne Runegust is best remembered for her role in protecting a remote outpost in territory claimed by the rival city Stonespire.   Born and raised in Whiteneedle, Tenne earned her Professorship at an early age. She was invited to the Council during a time of rapid population growth. For many years she served on the Outer Council and persistently advanced her studies of the labyrinth becoming the foremost scholar of the intricacies of the labyrinth. It was this that allowed her to advance to the Inner Council where she continued to serve Whiteneedle and relentlessly studied the labyrinth.   She discovered a great conspiracy, namely the ongoing conflict between the Rat Catchers, long assumed to have disbanded, and the Nezuthrope. Understanding the magnitude of what could happen if that discovery was spread, she buried her research and began to carefully sanitize her records to keep it hidden. Tenne never stooped to misinformation, relying on omission. Unfortunately, one of the members of the Central Council saw through her efforts and demanded an explanation why her records had gaps.   Tenne delayed her reply until she was accused of subversion and threatened to be arrested and investigated as a traitor. In lieu of an explanation, she packed a few necessaries and went into exile. Over time she became an accomplished explorer before finding the outpost far to the south which would eventually become known as Stormfort.   A stickler for organization she whipped the loose bands of adventurers into shape. Using her knowledge of the inner workings of the labyrinth, she coordinated the exploration and prevented the more experienced members from accidentally finding the Nezuthrope. Those that did were sworn to secrecy and tasked directly with trading with the Nezuthrope and enlisting their help to explore even deeper.   When General Rolph Novin appeared with the army of Whiteneedle's exiled nobles, she created the plan that prevented the outpost from being immediately overrun. It was her knowledge and work in establishing relations with Nezuthrope that allowed other members of the Adventurers' Guild to teleport to key locations to block the approaching army.   In the aftermath, it was not lost on the nobles of Stonespire that someone formerly of the Inner Council of Whiteneedle was the defacto mayor of one of their settlements and in nominal control of a dangerous paramilitary group. The nobles did not want to give credibility to the rogue nobles of Whiteneedle by leading a force against them to push the army back north. Thus it was only the Guild that supported Stormfort overtly. Even the garrison that was sent to occupy the settlement in the nobles' names was subverted by Tenne.   Under the cover of the conflict, Tenne was able to confer her research on the labyrinth to the upper echelons within the Adventurers' Guild. They worked to establish the current protocols concerning the Nezuthrope and created the agreements that permitted safe future interactions.   Tenne's death has been a matter of speculation. While she was aged, she was in excellent health so her sudden and short terminal illness was a shock. There are those in high positions within the Guild that become close-lipped when it is brought up. Some suggest that it was a sign from the Rat Catchers. Others whisper that it was the long reach of Whiteneedle finally settling their score via assassins sent by Duke Novin. She is still honored in Stormfort.
