Bestir the Tempest

In the days when Stormfort was initially expanding, the forest was still largely untamed before it fully became a city. The labyrinth was just as treacherous and those calling Stormfort home were some combination of brave, foolish, or desperate. To keep people motivated, reward their vigilance, and prove some constructive relief from the near-constant pressure, Mayor Runegust proposed a regular holiday. It became a day to slow down and take a moment to be thankful for the sacrifices others made to preserve the town, and to thank everyone around them for the sacrifices they may have to make. Some people shared meals, and drinks, or held parties. A central feature was the speech given by the Mayor and part of that was a reading of the names of those that died in service to the town since the last holiday. The names would be entered into a book called "Voices in the Storm," and if someone knew one of the names they would light a small candle and hold it until all the names had been called. The candle would then be placed in the Shrine of the Tempest. After the dead had been acknowledged, the Mayor would read off the names of anyone that had performed above and beyond expectation. Whether for saving lives, or running supplies regardless of the danger, or working without ceasing to make equipment or repair damage to the town. After each name, the crowd would cheer, and the name that received the loudest cacophony would be named Warden of Stormfort. During the holiday, no reasonable request of the Warden would be refused. Generally, they would be treated to fete after fete until they could barely stand. If the Warden was not available, anyone else whose name was called would be subjected to the same treatment.
