Adept

Within the Adventurers' Guild there is only the ranking system that quantifies the experience an adventurer accumulates. It is generally only used as an in-house reference to aid advisors in matching quests with adventurers of appropriate skills. However, there is one title that can be conferred that is recognized outside the Guild, and that is the Adept. During the annual audit, adventurers that have reached a certain minimum rank, generally B and higher, that have successfully completed a wide variety of quests, proven their proficiency, and operated within the Guild guidelines can be nominated to be awarded the title. Nominations must come from their peers within the Guild, clients they have worked for, community leaders where quests have taken place, and so forth. Counter nominations can also be levied against adventurers who did not act with the best intentions or caused harm to innocent bystanders or unnecessary damage. After the nominations have been tallied up, the adventurer will be summoned to an evaluation hearing. Based on their merit, and whether Guild leadership feels they can be an appropriate role model, mentor for junior members, and will represent the Guild well, they may be awarded the title of Adept at a later ceremony. Some have actually been blacklisted at the evaluation due to actions they have tried to hide.   Within the Guild the title of Adept just means more work for the recipient. Some have entered a quasi-retirement from adventuring in order to help new recruits. Outside the Guild, Adepts are known to be valuable consultants. Their range of skills and experience is often called upon for everything from mediating disputes to advising which crops to plant or where, or even good spots to mine gems and minerals. Many times even the paid Guard will defer to them, leaving suspected lawbreakers in their custody, or appealing to them for help proving the crime. During a crisis, it's usually Adepts taking charge while other Adventurers are supplying the initial manpower. Even if the nobles despise Guild Adepts, they will respect their abilities.

From outside of the world and setting entirely, I was drawn to the idea of how an adept - a title and designation I always took and had presented to me as someone a little more advanced than a pure novice - could be a title commanding respect. You, I firmly believe, hit the idea of "from those in the know" really well. You also show how this title is respected - again by those "in the know" - and how people can earn this title (or why they may not want to).   In regards to the content - I would love to see more links (who is this Adventurer's Guild, and you mention an annual audit so who does the auditing and what does the audit mean for the guild?) which also means you've got someone interested in learning more about your world.   Your paragraphs are a bit hard to follow on a screen, though that's a minor nitpick for formatting when this article feels like a really nice solid start to your world for a new reader who knows absolutely nothing coming in.
