Giant Scorpion Species in Binaka | World Anvil

Giant Scorpion

Occasionally found roaming the Great Desert, giant scorpions are magically altered versions of the normal giant hairy scorpion (which reaches a size of up to six inches long). They are altered to be eight feet long. At this size, their claws are capable of crushing a human. The venom they inject is more toxic that normal scorpions and comes in a much higher volume.   No one is sure what the source of the giant scorpions is. They are clearly magically modified and not some sort of mutation. However the source and reasons for the change are not clear. Scholars believe that no more than 20 of these creatures exist at any one time, given the frequency of encounters with them. Also, they appear to replenish in some way or another as over the decades dozens have been killed and the frequency of encounters has never varied much since they first appeared.   Giant scorpions are normally solitary. Very few cases of more than a single scorpion being encountered at once have been reported. These are generally also accompanied by reports of discruptons of habitat.   When encountered, a giant scorpion will generally attack immediately. The general tactic is to grab prey within one of the two claws then string with the tail stinger. A good hit from tail stinger will inject paralytic venom.

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

Giant scorpions stay within the confines of the Great Desert, although they are occasionally found near the edges.

Biological Cycle

It is believed that giant scorpions are magically enhanced hairy desert scorpions. As such, they follow the normal biological cycles of that species until they undergo the magical transformation process. Once this occurs, they become predatory monsters, simply living as long as they are able to capture prey. As all documented specimens appear to be male and the population is estimated to be a very low constant value, it is believed they cannot breed.
