    Aftershock of Ragnarok

When Heimdal shattered the Bifrost, the ripples were felt in every realm and caused extraordinary events to occur. On Vanaheim, the aftershock caused the dormant Volcano close to Stroya to awaken and erupt so violently it turned the land around it to cinders, covering the land around it in a blanket of ash, killing those in the immediate area instantly.

The sky carried ash for two years before clearing. It has been leaking lava ever since, creating fire rivers and hot springs. The sea also rose and disconnected the mainland into two islands. The land bridge that was once between between them is now submerged deep under water, taking villages and part of Vanaheim's history with it. The rise also cut of much of the outstretched coastlines, turning them into smaller islands.

    Jotunborn War

Not all Jotunborn that passed through the portals from Midgard were seeking refuge. Loyal Hel followers and those that embraced their Jotun blood-sires slipped through unknown. After a period of establishing themselves, they began to wreak havoc in Vanaheim. This lead to a distrust for all Jotunborn, and started The War of the Jotunborn, which lasted for some ten years before finally being stopped by the very people who were accused.

    Njord, Nerthus and the Code

The events of Ragnarok proved too much to bear, many of the lesser known Vanir fell to the forces of Niflheim and the loss was heart wrenching for those remaining. Eventually Njord and Nerthus grew weary of the realms and all their bloodshed and petty squabbles. They secluded themselves for three days and nights, and emerged grave faced, with a code in hand. This they handed to Eostre, and with faint smiles they turned and left. Njord returned to the sea, Nerthus to the land and each focused on maintaining the balance in their domain, protecting Vanaheim in their own way whilst the rest were left to govern the people.

    The First Council

With Njord and Nerthus gone, rather than plunge themselves into chaos, the races of Vanaheim pulled together; Human, Alfar and Jotunborn all put forth a candidate to the Vanir to fill the space the two gods had left behind. Initially as advisers to the Vanir, it soon became apparent that even this was not right. The Code that Njord and Nerthus has set up, meant more than equality for the lesser races... but also for the Vanir, and the land as well.

To survive, Vanaheim could not be ruled! The natural landscape alone were too wild; any attempt to conquer it was futile and this was true of the people living in that environment. Those advisors became the voices of Vanaheim, two per race along with the Vanir themselves, and adapted in such a way that their new found governance led to the formation of the first Vana Council.

    Gift of Gungnir

When the Allfather fell to the jaws of Fenrir it could be felt across the realms, like the air was too heavy for your lungs. Freya rode with her Valkyries to where the body of Odin laid and retrieved all that she could. Gungnir laid in the blood stained mud at his side, the death of him was enough to be a rallying call to the forces of Niflheim. Freya was not going to let them have a memento of it to wave like a banner, so along with Sleipnir she took the weapon and retreated across the Bifrost just as Heimdal sealed it behind her. For a time, Gungnir was hidden her Hall Sesrumnir until the wounds of Ragnarok healed into scars and a sense of normality had returned.

78 years after the sealing of Midgard Freya journeyed to Vanaheim, her home, and there gifted it to the Vana Council to be used to protect her home realm whilst she remained on Asgard.
