Hel is the daughter of Loki by the Jotun Angrbodr who resides in the Iron Wood, and Ruler of the Unglorious Dead of Nifelheim. She is the sister of the Wolf Fenrir the Midgard Serpent Jormangandr, and Sleipnir.

Hel somehow changed the prophecies of Ragnarok and was not defeated upon the battlefield. She overwhelmed the Asgardian forces and pushed them back until they retreated through the Bifrost, with Heimdall sealed it off. It is not known what has become of her, her army, or those who were left behind. The way to the lower realms has not been able to be opened since Heimdall sealed it in order to save those who fled.
