Circle of Dragons Organization in Beyond Greater Anghor - A Middle Earth Adventure | World Anvil

Circle of Dragons

Beginnings

A pair of young men worked as clerks in Mantor's Library within the Anghor city of Anghor Thom. When it was discovered that certain secret texts were stolen, the men fled, pursued by a fledging group of heroes. One was killed by the town militia. The other escaped and after a lengthy chase, was found to be headed to The Cave of Ruin. An investigation of the ruins led to a dark discovery.

Ambitions of Evil

Draped in multicolored robes which distinguish their rank and abilities, the Circle of Dragons rally around their leader, Talwart, a charismatic figure that they speak of in reverent tones befitting a God. At the heart of The Cave of Ruin, Tawart's true ambition was laid bare, protected by the spirit of long dead priests, a single scale from the defeated fire drake Smaug was discovered by the heroes. In thwarting his attempts to recapture the scale, it was later revealed that he and the cult have the means by which to resurrect the ancient dragons, and in doing so, command their loyalty.

Seething Vengeance

As the heroes continued their travels throughout the Wilderlands, they fought a bloody and dark battle against a fort housing an immense number of Dragon cultists. In the ensuing slaughter, dozens of priests were killed. Their remaining number curse the heroes names, and have been further incensed by Talwart's prodding. Now the priests share a singular purpose, a desire to bring about the end times through the return of the Middle Earth dragons, and the final destruction of the party of evil!

Alliance in Blood

After the raid on Circle of Dragon's fort, the heroes discovered a map fragment, and later, came to understand that Talwart and Balcoth, leader of the Easterling army on its way to Anghor, had formed an uneasy alliance. Though mutually distrustful, their marriage could spell doom for the inhabitants north and south of the Grey Mountain Narrows.

History

A group calling themselves The Ivory Congregation have claimed to be the true ancestors of the Circle of Dragon Cult. Isador Barlow, their leader, claims Talwart has perverted the true history of their ancient people. She has founded the Failing Sun's Light Church in an effort to reclaim reformed priests, their religion, and as an act of good faith, agree to fight the forces of Balcoth.   An ancient language of Anghor also seems to reveal the Circle of Dragons are a very old, possibly ancient, people of Anghor.
