This sword was a manifestation of Ilusi who seeks to reclaim power after the destruction of Mellencoth. They do this by loaning their power to new recruits who are sent to destroy opposing artifacts and recover what they can from the various ruins.
There is an opposing group that works against the monastic order. During an expidition Strakh located a cypher that could decode an ancient artifact within his organisation by was betrayed by a 'friend' he made along the way who worked for the opposition. This person was called Ashard (ash-ed), a charismatic male halfling.
Strakh's best friend is Keres, a female air genasi, another trainee whom grew up alongside Strakh.
Strakh has left his home because he has 'graduated' and feels like it his is time to make his mark. Also wants to track down Ashard and get revenge.
