Ebonvale

Demographics

Within the village you can find an abundant amount of races that have a natural affinity for fire and the other elements, particularly Tieflings, Genasi and Dragonborn. Those these races are numerable they are not alone in the village.

Government

Ebonvale is led by a ruling chief holding a dynastic seat inherated from their parent. The current ruler is Chan Tico, who for the last 30 years has overseen the villages growth and expansion. This is in opposition to his father who sought to shut the village away from the outside world after the War of Tears. All decisions by Chan are considered final unless he changes his mind, though he seeks often advice from the council of elders within his community.    The council of elders is a term used to describe the group of older residents who have a limited amount of infuence and power within Ebonvale. These individuals vote on small matters of state and hold village meetings to discuss urgant business that impacts everyone.

Defences

The village has no formal defences to speak of, though residents are expected to help in fending off wild creatures that wonder too close. As such it can be a target for bandits, though raids are rare due to the fiery ferosity of the locals.

Industry & Trade

Being located on the shores of The Sapphire Run Ebonvale benefits & relies upon the passing trade ships that navigate the river's course. The locals are dependent on these imported goods such as ores to keep their smiths working and will trade their local produce in the markets. The village has become somewhat famous in recent years due to their Dragonsbreath Whiskey, a fiery draught that is highly prized for its proof and fragrent scent. A single bottle can fetch upwards of 100gp in distant cities.

Infrastructure

There are a number of blacksmiths that service the village thanks to the natural abundancy of geothermal power here. On the southern edge you can find wind and watermills that grind the harvested grains into flour. Here also are several 'large' farms that provide the majority of food to the village. On the western side you can find the village's only market bordering The Sapphire Run with wooden docks for passing trade ships to stop at. Here travellers can find one of two taverns; The Red Dragon. Further inland you can find the other The Herth. The myriad of paths and roads within the village are made from packed dirt and flagstones to help fight against the seasonal rains.

Assets

As part of the regeneration and expansion Chan Tico orchestrated the construction of a spa resort for the merchants to try and improve his villages financial standing as well as small places of worship for deities.

History

Ebonvale is one of the oldest settlements in Beru yet dispite this it hasn't ever grown into a town or city.

Points of interest

The village offers some of the best views in Beru with the Karparth Range to the north and Mount Varaam to the south.    The Dragon's Nest Distillery draws visitors from afar for their famous drinks.

Architecture

Despite its poorer lifestyle, many of the buildings here are made from locallay quarried marble. The homes are often single story with more important buildings reaching a second level. Their roofs are constructed of wooden planks and are peaked to help stop heavy snow buildup. The locals like to draw caracatures of wild animals above their doors in an attempt to ward off evil spirits but this has fallen into a tourist attaction in recent times.

Climate

Located in a valley between Mount Varaam and the Karparth Range Ebonvale is subjected to fierce winds that stream through this channel. During the summer the weather is warm and dry but this shifts in the winter to a wet and stormy climate when storms roll down from the mountains.

Natural Resources

Ebonvale has two notable resources: Sun Fruit, loved for its flavour & Ebon marble, treasured for its red veins of copper that infuse its colour.
