Conchar

Conchar sits near the mouth of the Blue Dagger Lagoon and at the southern tip of the Vasugan Marshes. Considered by many to be the gateway to the lagoon, explorers from the Phirean Dynasty pass this way before sailing up The Sapphire Run.

Demographics

As with many wild settlements Conchar has residents from all over Beru, though it stands out for its significant population of water based races such as Water Genasi, Sea Elfs and Triton.

Government

Ruled by an elected council of three Conchar has a peaceful exsistence where major troubles are settled quickly. Most of the laws relate to respecting nature and typical public order rules that rule elsewhere, however it has two noteworthy laws: No fishing & you must ask consent of animals before consuming their products , such as eggs or milk, meats are exempt from this.

Defences

Being one of the wild settlements Conchar has no need for defences to repel invasion, their settlement has little of worth to claim. There are wooden towers dotted around the village to provide better sight for guards, and for warning of approaching wild beasts that sometimes stray too close.    Thankfully the town's population tend to have magical talents that aid in defence or distraction when needed.

Industry & Trade

The town owes its continuous exsistence to passing trade ships using the lagoon to access The Sapphire Run or departing from it.    Due to its location it is hard to find rarer goods within the village, even iron is considered desireable as there are no mines close by. Fionn Jewelle is the closest mine but it is several days away. They are mostly self-relient for building materials, medicene and food but welcome exotic items.    There is a local distiller famed for its Willowroot Spirit which is covetted for its healing properties.

Infrastructure

The village is made of around 1000 buildings, nearly all of which are homes that contain generations of families. The paths between are made from sturdy trees and dense stone slabs, both of which limit flooding from both the marsh and lagoon. There are several wooden jetties that reach out into the bay where passing trade ships can dock.

History

No-one knows when Conchar was settled, none of the records kept by any faction can accuratley pinpoint it, even those in the Shadow Gallery state that Conchar has always been a settlement, though its size and prominence have changed over the centuries.    460 years ago the settlement was nearly double in size and a wealthy tradepost, but this changed during a decade long wet season in the area. Many of the homes built along the shore were washed away in the swell from the lagoon, earning it the dagger name.

Climate

The climate here is wet nearly all year-round, it suffers from seasonal monsoons in the summer into early autumn, but the rains often continue well into winter. Alongside the rains flooding from the Blue Dagger Lagoon and Vasugan Marshes ensure that Conchar is perpetually drenched. Plagues of biting insects swarm in the spring and with little wind the locals are forced to dress in heavy garb to prevent biting.    In the height of summer the temperature can climb above 40c if winds blow down from the Moshal Desert and in winter they often remain above 10c, though sea mist and fog drift through when the rain finally ceases.
