Mar Darom
The heart of the Themulhir Mountains and the capital of the dwarven Underkingdom, Mar Darom is part city, part mine, and part fortress. The dwarves who live here are welcoming to outsiders, but can become hostile at the drop of a hat to those who break with tradition. Descendants of the warmongering dwarves at Bem Moldur, these mountain-dwellers are careful of what they teach their children. A deeply divided people, still suffering the effects of the disastrous Moldurian eugenics projects, the mountain dwarves generally keep to themselves, mining for mithril and gemstones beneath their enormous mountain fortresses. Their interaction with the Imperium can be described most succinctly as "mutual toleration," given that the Underkingdom does not pay full taxes to the Imperium, and retains almost all of its legislative independence. This freedom allows the Luddite sect, who settle high in the Themulhir Mountains directly over dwarven kingdoms, to exercise their odd beliefs in peace, guarded by the legal grey zone caused by the intersection of dwarven and Imperial law.
