Norg

While any creatures coming out of Erie Spires are colloquially referred to as the 'Beasts of Erie' most often people are thinking of the Norg whenever that phrase is on their lips. Though little is known about the Erie Spires, the Norg are the tales parents use to scare their children into obedience with. The Norg are a race of beastmen, a collection of tribes with cloven hooves in the place of feet, a thick hide, and sheep or ram-like facial features. Tales across Mélamar tell of Norg with a wide variety of looks and capabilities, leading some of the more experienced hunters, rangers, and anthropologists of the world to surmize that the Norg have several ethnicities. Further, the supposition has been made by the reknowned hunter, and member of the Greenwild Scouts Catelyn Sayer, that Norg society is somehow organized by these ethnicities, though how they have organized themselves is anyone's guess.

When asked if she could find out how the Norg organized themselves:

"Have you ever tried to talk to an enraged, red-furred Norg? No. You haven't. Do you want to know how I know that? You're alive, and unfortunately standing here talking to me. Now go away. I have more important things to do.
  • Catelyn Sayer, Hunter of the Greenwild Scouts"
  • Language: Survivors report that some of the Norg can speak broken common, while most speak this guttural language best described as a series of goatish bleats, grunts, and growls. The best guesses are that this somehow comprises their language, which the learned have simply called "Norgish."

    The Culling

Though it does not often occur, when the Norg come, they come to feed. They are infamous for their raids outside the Erie in search for fresh meat. Outlying farming villages are ripe targets of opportunities as Norg raiding parties butcher some for meat and take others as cattle to be butchered later. They are not picky eaters, apparently, as all that have crossed paths with a Norg raiding party typically fall victim to their butchery. Only those who are too sick, too old, too fat, or too skinny are left behind.
