Gath - Human

When refugees from the Scorched Lands began washing onto the Western shores of Mélamar, the Gathians were among them. It was the now-extinct Torunn that helped many fleeing the Scorched Lands take their first faltering steps into this previously unknown continent. They, along with a people of other races, left the shores of the Scorched Lands in ships that were overcrowded to the extreme, and under-supplied with provisions.

They were tribal when they landed, a ragged and broken people, upon Mélamar, but Gathians have an iron will, and the determination to not only survive, but to thrive. This determination saw them through their voyage to Mélamar, allowed them to survive in a harsh winter with the help of the Torunn, and then leave the following spring, many with little else than the clothes on their backs.

The Refining

Such is the stolid nature of the Gathians that they call the period of wandering that followed 'The Refining.' For nearly three years, the Gathians wandered, ever eastward, in an effort to find a place to call home. The land was wild and untamed. There were times they had believed they found a place to settle, only to be driven on by unexpected dangers from the untamed wilds, or other calamitous events that ultimately drove most onwards, many dying in the process.

"There. There, we must go. Something pulls me there. I know you feel it too. What we find will either be our end, or a new beginning such as we have never known." - Grigor Cadogan
