Judgement At The Gates

In every city criminal and civil matters are brought to the gates of the city where a platform has been constructed. If is there at the gates of the city that a judge provides a ruling on these matters in adherence to Derekh, the Law of The People. These judges are appointed by the elder of the tribe to which the city belongs, and preside over the city in that capacity for a period not longer than ten years.

 

Common Laws (note: work in progress)

  • You shall serve Shaddai only, in all his aspects. Serving any other is blasphemy, and will have no place among The People.
  • You shall not use Shaddai's name as a curse. It is sacred, and worthy of reverence and respect.
  • You shall not murder.
  • You shall not steal.
  • You shall not use Nathr to raise the dead.
 

Laws for sowing & Reaping

  • Ground must lay fallow two years out of every seven.
  • Farmer must preserve one tenth of its crop and bring it to the city storehouse for those in need to harvest for themselves.
  • Animal herders must reserve ten percent of their yield and bring it to the city storehouse for those in need. (e.g. pelts, meat, cheese, milk, etc.)
  • If you harvest crops near an oasis, you are required to replant, unless it is by law necessary for that land to lay fallow.
 

Laws of Trade & Finance

  • All income is subject to a ten percent yearly tax, paid to the government of each city.
