Clan Torunn

BACK
As an Iron Dwarf, when you think of the most complex, most detailed, or most beautiful stonework you've ever seen, you think of Clan Torunn. Though a small Minor Clan, there was no other clan as skilled at working with stone as they. For many centuries, the statues that guarded the sarcophagus in the "Hall of Kings," where the Iron Dwarves lay their kings to rest, as well as the sarcophagi themselves, were the product of the artistry of Clan Torunn. Many of the worked stone bridges, fountains, and other stonework were also courtesy of their unmatched ability. Such was the level of their talent for worked stone that, since their departure, no clan has been able to match the work of Clan Torunn. They were, however, not without their flaws...

Ambitions

Though it is not uncommon for rivalry and 'oneupmanship' to exist between clans, most rivalry between clans are friendly, though personal grudges were not unheard of. Most disagreements and rivalries between clans were more in the nature of friendly competition, and every dwarf understood that they were born of their love for their people, and their passion to see them continue to grow and thrive.

Yet for Clan Torunn, their sense of rivalry and competition turned into ambition and aggression over the course of a few decades, and often created dissent. They began using political pressure, questionable back room dealings, and other methods towards other minor Clans, often forcing them to give up their holds and to be absorbed into their clan. Though not strictly prohibited by law, other dwarves saw such ambition as dangerous to the health of the people as a whole, and frowned upon it. When the Dwarven king saw what was happening, he himself made a number of political moves that would pressure Clan Torunn into attempting to establish an outpost in a mountainous area far to the south that was rumored to be rich with ore.

Though quite bitter, Clan Torunn reluctantly agreed, striking out and establishing a city they named Krag Daruh.
