Vaulderman's Folly

Climate

The land is covered in a vast conifer forest but with clearings around the various natural lakes that dot the landscape. It gets snow during winter and is considered quite cold by most of the species out there but the inhabitants there are better prepared for it being feathered and or furred. No supernatural elements plague this land and overall it is one of the more peaceful places to be assuming one likes the cold and hasn’t made an enemy of the gryphons or run into any manticores.

History

Vaulderman is the name of the Halfling mayor of a small farming community that survived the retaliation of the dragons against the dwarves, one of the ones who the dwarves left behind and offered no aid to after the dragons came. So, he and many other halflings that survived banded together and left their now ruined fields and homes with what supplies they could and set sail on the oceans to find a new place to live. They soon found the island that would come to be known as Vaulderman’s Folly, when they landed, they were met by a few curious gryphons looking at these new creatures with neither side able to understand the other. The Halflings made the first error in assuming these were simple beasts and attempted to enslave them to be beasts of burden and defense. This quickly angered the gryphons who had already lost their mountain homes to invaders and would not do so again, and so they attacked harshly and found halfling to be of rather agreeable taste. It was then Vaulderman who tried to find safety in the mountains, where they ran into the manticores, Vaulderman did not survive his mistake this time. The halflings are said to have been wiped out during such events, but that is not true. Under different leadership, they have a hidden home away from the problems of the world where they can live in relative peace, but some still do venture to the cities of men where they are often mistaken for scrawny dwarves or children and are left mostly alone.
