The Great Spirits
There are a great many spirits of the world of Belthuran but there are 11 that fit the category of Great Spirits, the oldest and most powerful of the spirits that inhabit the world. The spirits are usually communed with only by druids and shamans but anyone with the knowledge on how to look for them can find the lesser spirits and perhaps even the great spirit themselves.
History:
Felza is perhaps the least known spirit on the material plane as it rarely needs to go there but has in the past to chase its quarry. Felza is a spirit that hates outsiders that would harm the balance be it celestial or Profane beings.
There are rumors that Felza intercepted the Demon prince Raxanis and his followers when they tried to invade the material plane and slaughtered them all.
Domain:
Felza has taken to hunting on the Maw and Overplane, however, it will go into the celestial or profane realms when it feels like and even rarely goes to the material plane which is its home.
Appearance:
Felza is perhaps the case that proves not to judge a book by the cover. Felza appears as a Fennec fox with white fur save for its paws with what looks like rolling flame fur. Its eyes are an icy blue, claws and teeth are diamonds. Felza rarely walks on the ground rather running or bounding on small storm clouds that form under its paws.
Temples and Shrines:
Felza is a spirit that the beings of the Overplane venerate greatly, and it is one of the few spirits that has a temple dedicated to it there. A monolithic structure is suspended on a mountain of diamond by magic chains.
History:
Irdeh is a famous spirit in Rhyderia and is venerated alongside Ithor. Irdeh is said to be the queen of horses if Ithor is the King of them. However, there is never any proof that the two have any sort of relationship.
Domain:
The wide-open plains of the world are this spirits domain, they have been seen running through the nights of Rhyderia often and are one of the more open spirits said to be of aid to those who need help when possible.
Appearance:
A horse of pure white hair that moves across the plains leaving a trail that shimmers like the Aurora borealis in the sky above them.
Temples and Shrines:
Irdeh is often seen on the plains of Rhyderia, and many visages of the equine spirit are found in either sculptures or shaped plants near the cities and major roads. Norwich has a shrine immediately as you enter the gates of the city to the spirit.
History:
Lulvey is a prideful and deceitful spirit while they take on the appearance of several types of serpents, they have no allegiance to snakes like Shulvay does to wolves. Lulvey is the representation of the Emerald Cove Jungles above all other jungles, for they are beautiful and deadly.
Domain:
The jungles of the world are Lulvey’s domain, but they do seem to prefer the Emerald cove jungle most and is supposed to inhabit the depths of that jungle over others.
Appearance:
A large serpent, a viper’s head, a cobra’s hood, and the body of a constrictor in many vibrant colors.
Temples and Shrines:
The city of Heir-Lann maintains a large shrine to Lulvey amid one of the major courtyards of the city. The Emerald cove jungle is their favored refuge.
History:
Nerphial is a spirit of water that makes him as fickle as they come. However, he is generally shown as a friendly being that gives live-giving water to the living. However, if his wrath is tempted, he will not hesitate to take it back or send far, far too much of it in the form of tsunamis.
Domain:
All water is the domain of Nerphial from the smallest pond to the oceans themselves. It is said the shear is his doing, but the spirit has never claimed such.
Appearance:
Nerphial is often shown as a very, very large crab with pincers that could cut a galleon in half with ease. It is said that there is a city on his back where all aquatic creatures are welcome to reside for a time as they move about his oceans.
Temples and Shrines:
He usually has a shrine in the temples of the water-based gods of the realm, or on the docks themselves.
History:
Norhesh is the lord of mountains and is a very prideful spirit who often demands gifts to stay the wrath of the storms he sends from his peaks.
In the more recent years, he has been watching the new Tyrannus being she is of Cloud Dragon origins, beyond this he does not go out of his way to interfere with the world aside from collecting his tribute or punishing those who do not offer him praise or tribute.
Domain:
The mountains are Norhesh’s domain however it is not known exactly where he roosts it would be expected to be at the highest of peaks.
Appearance:
Norhesh lord of the mountains appears as a Thunderbird, a gigantic eagle with storm colored feathers and constant lightning moving over his body. His wings leave storm clouds in his wake.
Temples and Shrines:
Norhesh has been seen to fly over the Shivius mountains more often than other ones this leads to the belief that he inhabits those forbidden lands. The oasis in the Dragon-Teeth mountains is named after him but he is rarely seen there.
History:
Onsel spirit of frozen domains is the elder spirit that inhabits the cold places of the world, mountain peaks, tundra, glacier-filled seas, and snow-coated lands are all domains of Onsel. Many shamanistic tribes spoke of Onsel leaving winter storms in their wake as they flew overhead. Always Onsel was at war with Nerphial in the lands of Ursand where the lakes never fully freeze and the oceans themselves.
Domain:
Onsel is the spirit of all areas affected by the cold. Ice-covered water, snow-covered land, glaciers, and tundra across the world.
Appearance:
Onsel has been rather universally depicted as a Roc or phoenix made of snow and ice.
Temples and Shrines:
Onsel is said to have a place of refuge in the physical world near the poles of the world.
History:
Oshtem has generally been a very lazy spirit content to sit in his mires and bogs. However, he is also known to let misfortune befall those who enter his domains either from attacks or the swamps themselves. An experiment between around Eis'Forat has corrupted the largest swamp continuous swamplands in Savorah, this has greatly angered Oshtem and he has unleashed hordes of malevolent sprites and spirits in the lands which are highly aggressive to anyone coming through the lands.
Domain:
The swamps of the world are his domain; however, he is said to dwell mostly in the Swamp of Sorrows area sewing his anger into the world there.
Appearance:
Oshtem appears as a massive dire crocodile, so large that some say the swamp of sorrows is on his back.
Temples and Shrines:
The swamps have shrines to him buried deep within their depths; however, they are now considered extremely dangerous to visit and even druids or spirit stalkers do not travel to those places without great need.
History:
Phardith is certainly one of the fickler of spirits as she enjoys the bravado of those mortals who dare to try and enter her domain and claim it as their own. Yet that admiration can very quickly turn to anger for a very small overstep and cave-ins or ambushes are common forms of her displeasure.
Domain:
All underground (caves and dungeons) areas are considered her domain, she is said to find adventurers quite amusing to watch as they enter her webs, and not always leaving.
Appearance:
Phardith appears as a large spider and rarely ever in full light so it is not known just what kind of spider.
Temples and Shrines:
Cave based societies tend to have some sort of shrine dedicated to the spirit of the deep earth. Aside from these crudes and rather misrepresentative shrines, the druids do maintain a few select and remote shrines to her to keep her appeased.
History:
Sehtaph is a spirit of community and enjoys scurrying about ever-present in city life. He is seen as both a pest and a good luck charm. When angered pestilence is not far off but while pleased there is usually a large surge of prosperity and community wellbeing.
Domain:
Sehtaph claims dominion over all urban (buildings, streets, and sewers) and is said to have a system of tunnels like sewers that connect all settlements across the planet to allow his wanderings.
Appearance:
Sehtaph appears as a small mouse, if he appears as a snow-white mouse it is supposed to be a sign of his displeasure whereas a tan or grey mouse shows his favor or apathy towards you.
Temples and Shrines:
Sehtaph has shrines among the various districts in cities often a small stone sculpture of a mouse the kind that could fit in a birdbath.
History:
Mother of wolves, Shulvay is said to be the spirit who created wolves in the early days of the world. If she did not create them, she certainly has adopted them. She is often seen as a huntress and many hunters offer her some token or another when they enter her domain. She is often at odds with Lulvey of the jungles, as the boundaries between forest and jungle are often obscure.
Domain:
The forests of the world are her domain where she is said to roam across them regardless of the distance or terrain between them.
Appearance:
Shulvay appears as a wolf made of roots, bark, and plant fibers.
Temples and Shrines:
She resides in a hidden grotto akin to a druid grove located somewhere in a pocket plane between the ethereal plane and the forests of the physical world.
History:
Yanhri is a spirit feared by those who travel barren lands of which there are thankfully few on Savorah. As such Yanhri is not a large part of the spirits worshiped locally.
Domain:
Deserts, Sands, and Wastelands
Appearance:
Yanhri appears as a sand-colored Yrthak while on the ground and when in the air as a sandstorm.
Temples and Shrines:
A distant continent is supposed to be mostly desert and the place of refuge in the physical world. Though their consciousness can appear in any desert as they are all part of their being.
