Catrin

The Catrin (Cha-Treen) are a largely a mystery to most people of the world, for this reason and several others most hate and or fear them as bringers of bad omens. The Catrin have a few strict rules that are known to outsiders, they can only show their face too someone they are intimate with regardless of gender or occasion, and they must always wear their Zhuutri (Zoo-Tree), an elaborate sleeve that tells others your name an accomplishments. This is taken further by many of the Catrin not wearing anything but their mask and Zhuutri which is secured to them by leather strap across their chest, if they are in an area that prohibits this such as a snowy or otherwise cold region they will wear cloaks but only when necessary. The most dressed members of the Catrin are the leaders and champions of the tribe, whose accomplishments simply cannot fit on a single sleeve. In more liberal tribes the clothing can be forsaken for full body tattoos of what the Zhuutri would show, but they must still keep a Zhuutri in their belongings and guard it as any other.   The Catrin have a reputation as being worshipers of profane things such as Baaphora and the demon princes or barons of hell, a large portion of their tribes being Tieflings only serves as proof for many. Many of their rituals and ceremonies can certainly appear to an outusider as such, for they speak in infernal. The irony being is that they mock the fiends by praising the gods in the tongue of the fiends, one of the gods most revered is The Dreamer for many born as a Tiefling all they seek in life is to be accepted and cared for instead of hated and feared.   The Catrin are a nomadic people but have many sites across the continent where they will go to to live temporarily, they live within yurts that can be easily assembled but are very sturdy, the design of them is simillar to that of the Zhuutri as pannels are dedicated to the family unit that lives within the yurt their accomplishments and often their family tree. The yurts have a larger central opening on the roof that is normally covered by a cupola but is removed on days of celebrations to allow the moon light to better illuminate the yurt.

Culture

The Mask

The Catrin each wear a mask that is stylized to mimic that of the person who wears it but distorted and exaggerated to mimic that of them but as a Tiefling with horns attached to the mask as well. A Tiefling also wears a mask that does the same without the artificial horns. Some tribes that lives near the ocean is known to graft coral to the skulls of those members who wish to undergo such. The point of the mask is to show acceptance to each other regardless of what is actually under the mask the gesture is largely symbollic but it also is a constant reminder that what is important in a person is not what they look like but who they are.

Clothing and the Zhuutri

Clothing is not forbidden among the Catrin but many tribes especially those in warmer climates simply do not enjoy wearing much clothing. Part of the practice is to show that they accept who and what they are and stand in defiance against those who would judge them for how they look. The Zhuutri on the other hand is perhaps the most important part of their culture to them, it is their identity, everything of note they have ever done is recorded on their Zhuutri. To loose it in battle is to be shamed your honor taken and past lost until you can reclaim it. To have it stolen otherwise is a grave insult to the honor of the tribe and should this happen it is common for the champion(s) of the tribe to help the offended Catrin reclaim it by any means necessary.

Celebrations

There are many who consider the Catrin to be nothing more than hedonistic fiend worshipping gypsies owing largely to their celebrations which do have a tendency to favor the carnal pleasures of the world, these are more side activities among those close to each other, the Catrin practice polygamy so it is not uncommon to see a large group enjoying the company of their loved ones and many mistake these for a promiscuous nature. Most of their celebrations involve a day of hunting beforehand, a day of games of skill followed by a feast, followed by the 'Consumtra Zell Dreamer' or consummate to/for Dreamer. A very private affair where lovers will remove their masks and live up to the name of the of the practice. Sadly to outsiders who witness, or more accurately spy on the Catrin and lack the context it looks more like some debased cult of pleasure indulging in their deviant ways under the moonlight.

Public Agenda

Mostly the Catrin simply wish to be left to live their life in peace, when they can they will try to bring on new members who wish to join them, mostly other Tieflings but there is a large number of humans and half elves followed by smaller numbers of half orcs, and elves. They seem to attract those who are outcasts in their own societies and long for something else.

Assets

Pack animals, the type depends largely on the location of the tribe, those in Rhyderia are likely to use Agoras, those in Xalandis will use Bostrasaur and so on.   Dragon-moths one of the more prized parts of the Catrin tribe are the Dragon-Moths and their silk producing young. This Dragon-Silk is used to produce the Zhuutri. It is extremely rare outside of a Catrin tribe but is sought after greatly by many especially mages as it can be easily enchanted in numerous ways.
