Lord of Madness

Qualifications

The only qualification needed to become a Lord of Madness is to prove that one is more capable of destroying Chaotic forces and resources than the current Lord.

Requirements

One has to be a god and member of the Conjoining of the Mad Gods while not being a member of the Assembly of the Sane Gods at the same time.

Appointment

The title of Lord of Madness is passed down via a trail of destructiveness. One god simply has to prove that they are better at destroying Chaotic forces and resources than the current lord, a fact they have to prove in either a trial by combat or trial by rampage. In a trial by combat they have to destroy an avatar of the current Lord in a pre-decided arena, oft the material plane. In a trial by combat, both parties meet up in Limbo and will turn in opposite directions, then begin to rampage. The god that got the farthest or left the cleanest path, in the decided time, will take up the mantle of Lord of Madness.   This taking up of the mantle goes without a ceremony, with the most that usually happens being the members of the Conjoining bowing their heads before returning to their eternal duty.

Duties

Generally, the Lord of Madness is considered to hold the Conjoining together. Because of the Chaotic nature of the Mad Gods, they need a strong leader that ensures they don't go out of bounds.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Lord are   1; Reporting to the Over-Power of the Batorian pantheon   2; Guiding the members of the Conjoining from one rampage to another   and 3; ensuring no member harms one another, directly nor indirectly, no matter what reason they may have.

Benefits

The position of Lord of Madness allows one to gain power from the worship of all who worship any member gods, command of the entire Pantheon, and a complete and utter control of the Pit of Tar, and all objects within it, to a sub-atomic level.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

A Lord of Madness can only be removed from their position when beaten in destruction by another member of the Conjoining or when the Over-Power of the Batorian Pantheon, Acr'Aldr, commands them to be removed.

History

The two most important historical events related to the title were the Conjoining of the Mad Gods, not to be confused with the current pantheon, and the war of the Snakes and Lions.   In the former the title was first established, being granted to Que'Tar, which resulted into a long period of tension as the culture of the pantheon and the role of its Lord would play.   In the latter, however, the issues came about when the Medusae goddess of Storms Nevremento usurped the Lord of Madness, at the time, the Golinae god of the dead and burials Dodenman. She did this by seducing him and, when he fell asleep after the act, cutting him up and spreading his pieces all across the Externis Orbium and declaring herself the Lady of Madness. This defiance of the, generally seen as, correct way of inheriting the title Que'Tar grew enraged and challenged her for the Position in trial by Combat, during which he completely obliterated her as he unleashed his raw Elemental and Greater Deific powers without restraint or regard for his opponent.

Cultural Significance

The perspective of cultures on Lords of Madness heavily depends on which pantheon they serve. The Abandoned Realm, and much of the Externis Orbium as well, is heavily divided in two between the Sane Gods and the Mad Gods, meaning that, depending on which of the two pantheons your culture serves, you either despise the title and see it as a flock of animals thinking theyre people or the rightful way of doing things in the Mad God pantheon.

Notable Holders

Que'Tar and Nevremento are most definitely the most notable of holders. The former was not only the very first to ever hold the title but he was also the one who has held it for the longest, having been the Lord of Madness for 4 millennia now after reclaiming it from Nevremento.   Nevremento, on the other hand, held the position for the shortest time and is considered to have been an un-rightful owner of it. She obtained it by, as stated before, tricking and slaying Dodenman, the Lord before her, and then claiming she was the Lady of Madness because of this, having the title taken from her almost immediately by Que'Tar afterward however.
