Personal history
Doug Valjean was an English teacher at Mary Brennon High School with a passion for classic literature, but he always struggled with his appearance that some would describe as "thuggish." It was due to this that, when falsely accused by one of his students of being inappropriate with her, it didn't take long for the court of public opinion to judge him as guilty and sentence him to an unceremonious dismissal.
On the brink of despair and unable to find any other line of work, Doug decided to make ends meet with the very appearance that got him into the situation in the first place. He started working at a nightclub bouncer, moving from place to place until he came into the employ of The Spider, who offered him a place in his organisation. The work was tough at first, and conflicted with Doug's gentler nature, but eventually his mind became inured to the self-loathing and quickly became one of Creel's most reliable enforcers, finding himself a respectable position within the organisation while still playing bouncer during the day.

Doug has qualifications in teaching and English with a focus on 20th century literature.

Likes & Dislikes
Doug has an irrepressible passion for reading, with his favourites being the early modern classics of the 20th century. He's quick to talk to others about his favourite books and will happily lend them out to inquisitive souls, offering a lengthy discussion should they be interested.
Despite his negative experience, Doug still has a fondness for children which inspired him to become a teacher in the first place. He's always happy to play pretend with a younger kid or hand out pieces of life advice to the older, though given his history and current employ, there's little opportunity to do that anymore.
