Session 48: Feywild Pt 1

General Summary

30th Conditori

First thing before climbing down was to check length of rope; Saman reels it in, its about 100ft, two 50s tied together. Let it back down, Robyn climbs down using a safety rope that Saman is holding. Agree on three-tugs to check in, and three tugs back if okay.
Get to about 50ft down, and hear the whooshing sound we heard two nights ago by the river. Robyn falls but catches the rope before going too far, burning her hands a bit. The voices ask what she's doing - intially they like her and say she's polite, and the fog lifts a bit, then they tell her she is being rude when she answers with a statement not a question, and says "thank you." Fog becomes very thick when they say she is rude.
Robyn climbs up and relays what she heard, explains the voices only seem to like questions and defintiely do not like "thank you."
  • According to the voices, another lady had been down "years ago".
  • Said that friends can come down so long as they are not rude, but they are not clear on what rude is.
  • "Need to know the rules of our realm if you're going to enter" - Robyn asks to be told the rules "You should already know the rules."

Robyn climbs down again to get to the end of the rope. As she reaches close to the end, Saman asks for extra rope from Rel to give more slack; Rel fails to secure it (Nat 1?) and then the safety rope just passes through Saman's fingers (Rel: "Why did you drop it?")
Rel starts climbing down as well, taking the rest of her rope (three) with her. Also hears the voices and tries not to offend them. Robyn meanwhile held on while the safety rope kept falling, and collected it to tie it to the end of the 100ft, as it did not reach the ground.
Below the fog is a verdant canopy of trees, the brightest, greenest trees any of the party have ever seen. There's a cacophony of sound of birds and creatures, complete difference to the Wastelands above (a rainforest beneath the fog).
Rel reaches Robyn and they work together to tie the extra rope on the end, then climb back up to relay the information. In total the climb is about 200 ft, and inclines in so you have to lean back as the cliff curves in, but below the fog is a bright expanse of forest like nothing they've seen. Hard to see below the treeline, but possible that Endira made it down and was scouting this for hunting.
Others are surprised its 200ft and they managed it in 15 minutes - for Rel and Robyn it had been at least an hour. Time seems to work differently - the "years ago" lady that climbed down could be Endira if she's been away for 4 weeks in Bastion time.
They climb down, Rel by herself, Robyn and Liv tied together, Saman and Penny tied together (like with the Deep). Liv falls and Robyn fails to hold on; then Liv activates wings in panic. Robyn regains grip, unties herself to let Liv fly down.
Liv goes a bit too fast and crashes into the tree tops. She then notices her wings are about three times their usual size, with bright, iridescent feathers (no one else sees this).
The air on the bottom is different; it feels dry by not uncomfortable, warm but no overwhelming; veritable utopia of a place. Everything that is magical is shining extra bright, from Liv's boots and gloves, to Saman's core. Potions don't react, and Robyn's exploding arrows aren't magical, so they're normal.
When Liv and Saman cast healing spells, they look very different more than just a glow, like you can see the magic that is being case, a magical hand appears when the spell is cast.
On the forest floor, there are insects everywhere, and a bright blue creature (butterfly-ish but we don't know what butterflies are) lands on Robyn, with vivid blue wings and orange eye-like shapes on them; it then vanishes and appears 5 feet away. There's an odd smell around, a mix of morning dew and rotting meat.
There's no sign of people or tracks around the foot of the cliff; whatever sign there could have been has likely long faded.
Penny and Liv investigate a tree, seems like it has a heartbeat. Rel sees them moving, and a vine picks Liv up and causes damage. Robyn runs over and tries to persuade the tree ("Roll Persuasion with disadvantage... ...you're talking to a tree.") to put Liv down; fails. Penny tried to shoot it, missed, (and I forgot what happened next, I think Rel smacked it good and Liv got dropped?
A humanoid elf-like creature emerged from the tree canopy, pale powder-blue skin, incredibly long ears. They said that they had found it amusing what had gone on so far and they don't normally have visitors. They said that they were surprised we got through Feyling Fog (the fog that is along the top with the voices). Explained that the Ent had attached because Liv had hurt it first when she crashed into it.
They asked if anyone wanted to exchange names; introduced themselves as Endira. Penitence gave his name and then their names switched - everytime Penitence tried to say his name, it came out as Endira. The new "Penitence" said that he liked it, and that Endira was a gift to him - can't just give it back, those aren't the rules. We asked where they got Endira's name, said that a woman called Prilan normally was found patrolling the woods and enjoying the city of Lordanas.
"Penitence" said that he was one of the residents of this area, an Elandril (and elves were ones Elandril way back in history). He said he's not quite an archfey, and he was willing to exchange names back again in return for a favour, if we were to kill the current archfey, Ry'thera. Apparently he has been disrespectful and attempts to resolve issues between them has failed.
Asked more about the rules, didn't give anymore but reinforced that "thank you" is incredibly offensive "like going into your home and shitting on your floor."
We asked for directions to Lordanas - general feeling (between the -party) is that we are not going to kill Ry'thera just because we were asked, but we would head that way anyway - "Penitence" just pointed "that way". Robyn attempted to get her compass set in that direction and instead pretty sure "Pentitence" just fixed it to point in a single direction, no benefit at all. Lordanas is built into the tree tops so would need to make sure looking up as well.
Head in that direction - there is some sort of light cycle in this place in lieu of actual sunlight or usual day/night, so we get some feeling of time passing. Rel is checking treetops. Usual marching order, Robyn, Rel, Liv, "Endira", Saman; ended session when we got jumped by massive fecking white and blue mottled spiders, one dropped behind Penny and paralyzed him.
