Session 108-9: We can't solve all our problems by putting them in rings
General Summary
38th Proviso
- Visit the Gnomish Encampment to do a food run (Liv), scrap metal drop and pick up arrows (Robyn)
- Head West and find a Warforged arm in the shifting sands - like Saman's old one, but older still, with markings on the inside like scripture and the symbol of a crook.
- Grandmother later tells us that the followers of Arden, the Shepherd, used Warforged
- Use Sending to message Daemon about the Skirmishers latest movements near Purgatory.
- Liv's watch is uneventful but she feels lighter, calmer, not like she ever has before - wonders if it's the "pesky soul anchor"
- Robyn and Peni test out her goggles; Rel is hard to wake up - steady uneventful night.
39th Proviso
- Pack up camp and head west but come across portal from the demons; speak to Peni: "You have something that belongs to me, false prophet. I can sense it."
- New fiend: bone devil, with wings, a stinging, poisonous tail, and demonic skull face.
- Maw demons, the Big Guy, and the leader Daegon
- Head across the Cracked Flats outside of Skirmisher territory; covered in a fog of natural dust, smells sulphuric
- Sounds of a large creature coming south, hide in a ditch, darkness covers us as the creature goes over us - foot of it spans the ditches; writhing flesh foot, undulating knitting and reknitting skin.
- Sound is dampened in the Flats - if this is where it is normally, it would explain why it hasn't been seen before.
- Rel uses the wand of secrets, finds a secret in a ditch, uses a light rock to put in the ditch and see how far down it goes because light rocks have really helped before
- Exact quote from my draft notes: "Rel wants to check it. Robyn does not. Rel goes down anyway."
- Rel finds alcove about 5ft wide and 7ft tall; sets off trap that freezes her to the floor. Liv uses dispel magic to free her and get her out
- Rel wants to check it out more another time; Robyn thinks it is in the latter third of the sunken flats to try and retrace it later.
- Approach Petrified Forest after 3-4 hours more travelling, well into the night.
- Camp in the treeline - trees still look petrified but it is still and calm.
- Peni and Robyn talk killing demons: Robyn promises to tell Peni when she uses a dragonscale arrow
- Rel climbs a tree and wakes Robyn up - Robyn wakes everyone else up using the sending bracelet which is basically a Zoom bracelet without mute.
- Liv also climbs a tree, finds the stone of the trees is changing inside, more woodlike even though exterior is the same. Looks like its restoring slowly.
- Liv sees Golar approaching from the West and in the morning he escorts us to Grandmother.
40th Proviso
- As we head toward the Grove, the trees start getting greener
- The Grove is greener too, with small birds and insects, flowers growing on vines on the trees, the pond with life swimming in it
- Grandmother there, but something weighing on her
- Corvus and Ser Bright are investigating a problem in the south, something affecting Grandmother and resisting the change in the forest
- Explain that we're headed to the Mountain range beyond the forest
- At the mention of Kothar, Grandmother says she doesn't know the name, but Liv feels she does.
- Her reaction to Ogrim's name is fear
- Ask if grandmother is as old as the forest, she would say she was that old, but she remembers when Ogrim marched on the world with an army of the abyss, and the soul anchor repelled them
- At the mention of Elorian, the scholar, she turns sad
- She asks after N'um'enor - because she made it, she's Bronwen the Provider
- Liv tells her about Ogrim and that he was the one betrayed
- Be cautious - there are two sides to every story I saw ogrim, general and his armies laid waste The soul anchor wiped them from this plane
- Elorian and Kerrig(sp) constructed it, powered it, but doesn't know how
- The dryad has helped keep Bronwen alive for so long.
- Numenor was set up for the familar lines of those who survived - no more than that, they didn't know anyone else had survived.
- Browen doesn't know what Peni's stick is for
- Say we'll head south to check on Corvus and Ser Bright - Andromeda, a tree frog, joins us.
