Perellians
Perellians are Humans from the Republic of Perellia, a massive continent-spanning hegemon with direct or indirect control over most of The Hinterlands, save for the Northern Hinterlands. Originally a small tribe from the city of Perellia in the Southern Hinterlands, Perellians have conquered their neighbors and exported their culture and technology, resulting in their present-day empire. Who can properly be called a Perellian is a matter of some debate; while most citizens of the Perellian Republic consider themselves Perellians, not all have ethnic ties to the Perellian heartland and have instead Perellianized. Perellians from the heartland mostly consider these people fellow Perellians, save perhaps for the most conservative of the city's higher class. The typical Perellian heartlander has fair to olive-colored skin and dark hair and eyes, though the integration of conquered peoples has made appearance a poor marker of identity. Culturally, they consider themselves staunch rivals to the Aşcalites.
Perellians speak the Perellian Language, which has seen massive spread over the Second and Third Reckonings during the Republic's ascendancy.
Naming Traditions
Feminine names
Lavinia, Aelia, Drusilla, Octavia, Calpurnia, Floriana, Quinctia, Valeria
Masculine names
Petronius, Valerius, Tiberius, Severus, Marcellus, Quintilianus, Cyprianus, Silvius, Caius, Maximianus
Family names
Perellian names consist of a tribal name followed by a personal name. The tribal name precedes the personal name and adapts to the gender of the individual. For example:
A male named Caius from the Junia tribe would be called Junius Caius.
A female named Drusilla from the Vorenia tribe would be called Vorenia Drusilla.
Individuals who are neither male nor female typically adopt a form of their choosing from the two, though the Perellian language defaults to the male gender for words. Perellianized individuals from other cultures may adapt an existing tribal name or invent one to blend into Perellian society. The tribal name is typically rendered in the female form when used to discuss a family.
Other names
People from other cultures who adopt Perellian customs may adapt an existing tribal name to fit the Perellian linguistic style or invent a tribal name entirely, designed to fit into Perellian society. For example, an elf or half-elf may adopt the tribal name Corelliana after the chief deity of the Elven pantheon, Corellon Larethian.
