Hesseth

Hesseth is the Marlish god of mountains, earth, and agriculture. Marlishmen believe that during the creation of the world, Theoning commanded Hesseth to form the bones of the Primordial Being into the ground. While he is considered an auxiliary god, he is among the most notable of that category; this is not only due to his established role in the Marlish creation story, but also to the prevalence of his worship, particularly in rural Marlish communities. While his cult did not survive the formation of the Church of the Six in Charl, he is one of the two figures that comprise the fusion god Hessap, a god with a large following in the County of Geryatdale.

Divine Manifestations

Hesseth the Earth-Shaker

The Earth-Shaker is Hesseth's primary manifestation. He is typically depicted as a middle-aged man driving a hammer into the ground, causing the earth to tremble beneath him. In this function, he is revered as god of earthquakes.

Hesseth the Mountain Lord

The Mountain Lord is a largely historical manifestation of Hesseth that has largely disappeared from worship in Marlam's most populated areas. Little is known about this manifestation save that it was likely an inspiration for the Gerish deity Hessap.

Tenets of Faith

Keep clean the fruit of my work, for the earth itself is a gift to you. Work it as I have worked to bring it forth, and you will have my blessings upon your harvests. Those who tarnish it are not worthy of my favor.
