Aşcalite Language

Aşcalite is properly defined as a group of related languages spoken in the Aşcalite Coast on the continent of Aşcaloş, as well as the many Aşcalite colonies in other lands. Many of these languages are at least partly mutually intelligible, particularly within one of the two roughly defined cultural regions- the Northern Cities, situated on the arid coast, and the Southern Cities, situated in the jungled Heşpora.
Due to the fiercely independent nature of each Aşcalite city, few will claim that each city does not contain its own distinct language. Indeed, the language of each city forms a sort of dialect continuum that can be roughly divided into two groups: Oraşian, by far the most widespread dialect and the one from which the Hinterlands Common Language is derived, and Şeşian, the most common dialect among the Southern Cities. It is common for cities to simply use Oraşian when communicating among themselves, which has led to its status as a prestige dialect.
While Aşcalite shares much of its grammatical structure with the Hinterlands Common Language, the two are not mutually intelligible as the latter received much of its vocabulary from the Perellian Language.
