Session 104: Scallywags: Consequences of Kingship

General Summary

It is early the next morning, and Ilknar and Nethpione are meeting with Hornal, the Regent, and his mother Aurora, her sister Hrilda, Aurora's son Throngar, and the great grandfather, Oudin--all storm giants. Before them, in this expansive palace and room, the body of King Boveen, still strapped in a wooden box, is attended to by a dwarven cleric of some sort. Very young, very studious and very quiet he works to stop the rot and degradation of the body, a gentle repose where undeath will not take hold.
Ilknar has questions about the dragons and the giants, and it is acknowledged that, yes, the dragons have come first, by Oudin himself, but their is a claim of order that the giants tried to bring. However, their is a claim of duty that was not there, and he sees something now. It is shown by Hrilda's response when Ilknar reveals that Bilin has spoken to him, that Nethpione is this sceptre to the throne, the access needed for the king, the true king. Hrilda pledges herself to Ilknar, her true lord, jumping down to his level, kneeling, laying her sword before him. Ilknar accepts, and Oudin suggests they move forward to gain the full support of the Ordning of the Giants, and thus Starella, the Stone Queen now chosen by the All Father.

Mila comes in the room, and she is ready to commit herself to the ritual of legend and lore, and she wishes to cast this upon King Boveen's body, to know what is he really, what made him to be, and can they revert this transmutations.
Firstly, she sees who is parentage is--a Scion of the Great Queen, he is a brother to Auna, and an inheritor to that claim and land. His father, well, it must be Dovah, a faint name coming to mind, for what other draconic lord would influence him so distinctly. Then additionlly, his wife, she sent him on a trail to win, but also to harness and help their lost daughter. King Boveen became the first to be experimented on, the first to rise to the challenge. However this changed him, and soon sent him on an even darker path, where he pledges his life and work to Tiamat in exchange for the divine right and power to lead himself, his daughter, and his kingdom to this future.

Ilknar and Mila then debate if they tell the other Dovah children, even if the Lord Dovah himself--should they, do they know about how King Boveen is their brother, their kin? They have a claim to Bahumat's line, to the claim of the wall, albeit weakly. Will they act on it? Will the power go to their head?

Nevertheless, they stop and take the head of the King so that they have proof of his fall. Before Ilknar leaves, he shows his mark, the glowin bioluminescence upon his back, and again the storm giants know and see that the All Father is making choices, that Bilin is guiding her chidren to a new age.

Roland has rowed his way back through the Regent Tower, bloody, exhausted, and clothes torn. He has a duty to uphold to what is now left to claim within the Regent Isles. He is lead in by Teyos and others, many of the crew happy to see him, and then to his room. He changes into simple clothes, for many of his fine clothes have seen better days by this point. Then he heads downstairs to meet with Gyc who is sharping his own greatsword. Roland steps in, and he wants to give gyc his gloves and vest, the eyes that can look beyond, but Gyc does not want to have Roland go, to face the Trio, those who certainly would come after him, he that destroyed their nautiloid and aims of Capatin Sheeroum. Gyc volunteers to go, seeing that Vareth and nepotism has taken over the Dovah's it seems.

One the western surf of the Regent Isles, the Dovah Kin sail with the Unshackeld Horizon, Valentha's vessel, and the share stories together. Of the Bloom, of Destiny, and view, of purpose and the seas of the Grey Coasts. With this, the Lord Dovah says his goodbyes, and he transforms again to his ancient draconic form, and he flies away, leaving his children again to fend for themselves. They lay plans to first head north to the shipyards, and then across the seas to the Noian Lands.

Later that evening, the crew all gather as the Dovah kin arrive aboard the Call. Ilknar is quick to break away to Brimstone, in front of the whole crew. He wants to go to the wall, to seek his claim and destiny. He needs to the Crimson Fleet to go with him. Hrilda comes aboard, and the crew jeer with fear and excitement. Ilknar is indeed the Storm King.
Brimstone wants to know what Ilknar intends to do, and Ilknar says Destiny, Commodore.
Who's?
Mine, all of ours.
What's really going on?
Faith in no control, Ilknar. What if we didn't need the throne? What if it has lived out its purpose? One man caused so much strife for generations to come, all for the vying pride over this throne. There was no choice given to the people. There should not be some arbritrary force controlling the fate of so many.

Yet, Captain, there will always be one.
But, still, we must remove the the throne.
Roland speaks up, but, someone, wouldn't there always be somone wanting to take that power?
Ilknar speaks to the vote, to the idea that Brimstone was not voted for by Ilknar, but how now Brimstone is Ilknar's captain.
They need to go after the head, the queen. The Fleet needs to unite. The chaos will reign if nothing is fixed. There is a chance to do good, to control their own fate.
Ilknar yells to the crew, grains their attention, and seemingly rallies them to a new force. A claim for a new freedom amongst the Greycoasts.

Roland steps forward, and he informs the crew of his impending departure, his need to guide his own new crew, that of the Gambit towards.

The crew then plans and travel along the western shores of the Regent Isles, doing some last minute shopping, yes, but also gaining some foresight into future ventures and practices.
Brimstone gains an amulet of devout for Tritherion, and some new mariner's plate armor.
Mila gets Teyos' assistance to take Aikhon's crystal ball, so the gnome wizard can scry upon Pojin. She finds him, somehow, over a few hundred miles away, drinking in front of the picture of Mila's mother.
Ilknar and Nethpione spend a lot of time together, and he assists more aboard the deck as look out. He also learns more orcish while teaching Nethpione some basic giant.

Roland says his goodbyes to the crew...
Valentha and Vumpesh will join him thereafter, Valentha bring gold from the vaults of the Faces, and Vumpesh joining again in a few days after his assistance with Lady Sasha's tumor surgery.
Roland sahs goody to Sasha, saying she can visit anytime and that she needs to change his name and likeness within her book. Boris sounds right.
Roland knows Ilknar will be a good king, and hopes there will be no issues with taxes.
Mila knows the Queen is a worry, and Roland hopes she can guide Ilknar through his claim as king. Could he employ Francine and others? Roland will need to prove himself in the ring at the Turvy.

He ignores Aikhon, but the dragonborn will remember this.
Deoy shaves one final nail.

NEXT TIME:
Roland saying Goodbye to Brimstone.
Vumpesh surgery with Sasha.

Far, far away... more Kobold Juggernauts, and one arrives in the Regent Tower to trade slaves.
Rognur, he has gained rank with the Desert Dwarves to the north. He is their head surgeon, giving them, like many other leaders across the northern hemisphere in the last twenty years, access to the Catalyst science and surgery.
