Session 100: Scallwags: The Devil Gambles No More
General Summary
The crew make their way to the mansion as quickly as they can, but they find others have already gathered inside for this meeting of the new leadership of the devil's gambit. Roland must not let Sylvan, the son of Vull Somer, take control of this leadership, so the group breaks away. Ilknar, Sasha, Nethpione and Pemi find the main entrance to this basement level on the other side from where they have approached. Brimstone, Aikhon, Roland, Mila, Vareth, and Valentha all approach from the back cellar, though the butchers, sneaking in just in time away from any patrols.
Once inside, they sneak through the larder, and then through some other doors to the the storage area. However, they find the guards who are following other noises from the other side of the building.
On the other side, Ilknar, Sasha, Nethpione and Pemi were stopped by a guard, and then another, and at first Nethpione tries to convince them of their legitimacy of being here, how they come with a new trade agreement for the new leadership. The guards are skeptical, and a third joins, a lord. They all now recognize Sasha, her fame proceeds her, and that might be enough to let them in if not for the lord having a strict list of who is to attend, and all are here, and Lady Sasha is indeed not able to attend. With this, Lady Sasha comes to the closest wall and fells it down, thus making another entrance for this group to enter into the mansion of the Somer. The guard react and gather, and a brawl soon breaks out.
This is the noise the others heard, and soon they enter to flank inside the building, with Brimstone leading the way, and Mila and Roland following soon thereafter. Vareth and Valentha assist. With this, they are able to take out most of the guards, and incapacitate most of the leaders, allowing for their arrests later. Sylvan falls, eventually, and his compatriots and he are left to be arrested by the Regent later.
Aikhon breaks away from the group, and he goes upstairs, and he searches through the other floors of the mansion for something precious.
Below, the group is able to waylay the many, and take Sylvan in town. Solaine, a key member of the Devil's Gambit, gets away, but Roland knows, he hopes, she will return, so she can indeed help with his plans. Her accountant skills are legendary.
During the end of the fight, Ilknar breaks through the ceiling of the basement, giant in form, and allows for Brimstone to join his brother, by climbing up the back and shoulder of Ilknar. They assist with the gathering of loot, and below, the ballte stops, and Mila ties and puts the captured prisoners away.
Roland has Aikhon send a magical message to Hornal, Regent Grey. The Regent needs to know who is captured, and they say they have all but Lod, which is partially true. They still need to look for Lod.
Lady Sasha took much of the offensive during this, so she elects for a rest while the others move onward. Vareth, Valentha, take the loots back to the ships, and the others make their way through the Regent Tower upper streets and walls, stairs, ladders, and towers, to the northern wetlands. There, after a brief hike, they find a small dock, with a handful of rowboats attached.
Sitting there, Bangrim waits for the others, to let them know, Ollie, Feanger, and Steadfast have already gone in, and once inside, they find Ollie in conversation with a sailor of Elerra's order, and he is refusing to allow the half-orc monk, former chosen of the king, entrance to this moot. Roland, a human was invited, none others. Steadfast waits on, and Feanger soon makes his presence known by hovering into the area.
Now the howl group enters, and Roland pays the sailor/guard off. They enter in, and they find the drow leader, Elerra, at her stone table with a half dozen others: two or three greeters to entertain her other four guests. Reputations proceed them all, and Aikhon soon takes over the conversation, even after only Roland is invited to sit at the table. He knows of Mr. Temerity, the tiefling who sits at the table with Elerra, and Aikhon is not ready for this member to leave this party. Discussions continue, and Temerity offers a seat again for Roland, where Temerity sits across the table to his other half dragon friend, Sighadd. They offer an alliance with Roland and the new order of the Devil's Gambit.
Roland states the Gambit will lose its hellish heritage, and name, and it will become a legitimate trading force for the Regent Isles and indeed the Grey Coasts as a whole. This leaves further discussion mute, from Temerity's end, and he proclaims his leave. Elerra says she will let him take his prize, his arrangment before he leaves.
Her guards go to get it, and she continues to converse with the duo and the Scallywags. In the other room, Aikhon, Ilknar, Brimstone, and Roland here a voice yell, no, leave him alone, obviously at Elerra's guards. The voice is familiar to Brimstone and Aikhon, yes, but to Ilknar, Yolov is a true member of the crew, one who has been with Pojin, Teyos, Dosgratin, and so many other members of the Call for, well, decades. Yolov is captured, and Yolov knows this dwarf who is dragged out, in chains, and given to Nephron Temerity as some gift, some trade, some exchange. It is for the king, and that is all that matters.
Nephron and Sighadd try to leave with their chained dwarf, but Brimstone, his kin, and the other Scallywags block his path, and his compatriot draws his weapon, as does Nephron. Then fates have been chosen.
