Diverting to the Tower by the Lake

General Summary

Excerpt from Seir’s Little Black Book (Session 8/12/21): Penned in Borokin’s hand, via dictation

We see ruts in the mud that seem to have been from wagon wheels, maybe a day old. Also wolf pawprints, both approaching and leaving the tower. The wolf tracks seemed to somewhat mill about in the area and the wagon tracks near the tower were deep, like the wagon was parked. It seems that Ricktavio was parked there for a while, started getting stalked by wolves, and then decided to leave.   I remind everyone to check for traps as we approach the door. Khaylen summoned her magic floating cat paw and reached for the door, while O tried to sense any nearby magic. The cat hand vanished near the tower, as if there was some sort of illusion hiding the tower. I picked up a rock and tossed it towards the tower as O pointed out that the tracks seemed to disappear right around where the mage hand disappeared.   My rock went up to the door but seemed to get zapped when it bounced off of the wall.   We noticed the door had a series of stick figure drawings on it, like a dance. I suggested this and Khaylen immediately tried to start doing it, with me, Zin, and Thoradin joining in, each of us trying a different sequence. After we completed, we smelled a strong ozone smell, then a spectral, half-conjured blue dragon appeared on the beach near us. It screeched in pain and was surrounded by electricity. As far as I could tell, it was quite young. They’re usually found in deserts, so this was a pretty weird place for it.   It looked like it had been in some sort of battle. It turns out that Letho speaks some Draconic so we had to get him up and try to get him to talk to the dragon. Khaylen kneeled with him and fed him some lines, though lord knows what he actually said.   He apparently told it that we came across it by accident and asked it if it needed any help, and it responded by asking “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?” in a weird dialect. Letho asked where its dialect was from, and it said it was ancient, and has been imprisoned by Khazan, the wizard owner of the tower. The dragon says that he has no choice but to fight us, and it is not his will.   I tried to dispel the magic on the creature, but I was unsuccessful. Zin ran behind the tower and discovered a small hole in its side, discovering a third floor mostly in ruins, with a hole in the middle with chains running up and down through it.   The dragon told Letho that the door was what bound it, and then immediately knocked out Khaylen, Thoradin, and Letho with a blast of electricity. It then dove underground. The ground shook as it tunneled towards us.   Thoradin managed to get up, shot at the door unsuccessfully, and ran around the tower. I cast a spell to heal Letho, screamed at him to destroy the door, and ran away as fast as I could- I feel like a coward, but I think he’s the only one strong enough to destroy it, and hopefully all of us running would draw fire off of him.   Zin hopped inside the tower, grabbing a chain and sliding down it. He spotted a battering ram inside and slid down to the first floor. When he landed on the floor, a few statues around him seemed to move but they were just holding onto chains; they didn’t attack him.   On the other side of the door, he saw the same dancing stick figures. And he danced.   The rumbling in the ground stopped. And the door opened. He punched the door in surprise and got electrocuted, but thankfully not fatally.   O called us and said the door was closed. We met up and healed up the unconscious people (Khaylen, mostly).   Khaylen ran inside the building and immediately starting trying to attack the stone golems while Zin started destroying boxes. I saw them doing this and started to step back, as I didn’t want to get involved with whatever they were doing. Thankfully, nothing happened.   Khaylen explained to me that she didn’t want them to ambush us, which I suppose is reasonable but I wasn’t super excited about provoking a combat. We entered the tower and decided to try and rest there.   Letho unsuccessfully tried to climb up one of the chains but didn’t make it far before falling. He also noticed that his rug got singed, which made him very upset. He also tried to get the elk to come in, but it refused, saying the area wasn’t welcome.   Zin successfully climbed the chains to get to the next floor.
