The Giant's Boulder

Long ago, when men first came to the lands that are now called the Barony of Edresh, they found it inhabited by other humanoids: orcs, goblins, kobolds, and giants. Following their divine mandate to defeat chaos and create order, the humans conquered the lands, creating new towns and settlements. Eventually they reached what would later be named the Vasher Mountains, after Lord Commander Vasher who conquered them. The mountains were home to a tribe of stone giants. The giants attempted to drive off the humans, but the humans' will was strong and they would not be so easily defeated. Many great battles were fought, such as have not been seen in an age.   Eventually, even great Lanak, might warrior and king of the stone giants, was forced to come down out of the mountains and face Vasher and his armies. The battle raged for seven days and seven nights. Giants were slain, ranks of infantry flattened, calvary crushed underfoot, and the battlefield soaked with blood. In the end, Lanak and Vasher faced each other across the battlefield. Lanak held a massive boulder, so large it could crush a house. Vasher wielded a mighty spear, a weapon crafted by the finest weaponsmiths and enchanted to slay giants. Lanak hurled his boulder, narrowly missing Vasher. Vasher rushed the giant, stabbing with the spear. Blessed by the gods, his aim was true, and he took Lanak through the heart. The rest of the giants were either slain or fled.   When the area was cleared, the boulder thrown by Lanak was too heavy to move. A town was built around it. The town was named Boulderfall, for the boulder that still sits in the town. The smiths who created Lanaksbane, the spear wielded by Vasher, settled in this town, passing down their knowledge and skills. To this day, no finer weapons can be found in the barony than those crafted by the weapon masters in Boulderfall.
