Pedonia
Pedonia, once a land of many city states that progressed philosophy of ethics and metaphysics further than almost any single country. Its additions to political thought is matched (and in many ways surpassed or furthered) only by Qinqelli philosophers. Pedonia as a word is a recent concept. As a unified kingdom, Pedonia has only existed for around 200 years, though its cities have histories buried among them as ruined temples and and colonnades and theatres which go back nearly a thousand years. During their height, there were no less than 20 different city states in the land we would now call Pedonia which each had their own form of government and laws and customs, and which sometimes warred with each other, but ultimately protected each other from outside forces. They also extended their influence so far abroad that even if the Carovarian empire hadn’t conquered them, they would have had a lasting impact on Balliston as we know it. Their actual holdings at one point covered most of what is today known as Rincentia. This history is something Pedonians are incredibly proud of, and are likely to mention to you any chance they get. But in history the Red Empire did indeed take over, and adopt many of the Pedonians’ customs into their own governance, and eventually spread their thought all across the known world. Nowadays, Pedonia is a kingdom that has a tendency to look back more than forward, and is dominated by a great divide. Philosophy is everything to Pedonia, even today, and city dwellers and educated members of the kingdom are expected to be well versed in one of the great “schools” of philosophy. On the other hand, peasants are much more likely to be fisherman or olive growers. Pedonians often have skin tones in the olive range, with darker hair (often curly).
