Leopold Elcher

Baron Leopold Elcher

Leopold Elcher, the last baron of House Elcher is known perhaps most in the annals as a man of peace through strength of will. His story is long but his tale centers around his marriage to Chloris Pen who united the kingdoms of Langsee and Pencoyd, two kingdoms of some influence in the latter stages of the 3rd century. For over a decade, Lord Elcher held a fragile peace between the two kingdoms from his mountain holding, known as Elchhome, or Elchschloss. The peace ended upon his death at the hands of the northern tribes of the Rova, who saw the holding as an encroachment upon their ancient lands. After many skirmishes won over the decade of his peace, a number of Rova tribes united with a force of dwarves to rid the mountain pass of the affront to their gods, and surrounded the keep before ultimately dragging the Lord and his remaining guard out and stringing them up upon their lands, flaying their bodies in ceremonial sacrifice. It is said that the storm rolled in but did not wash away the blood of the slain. After his death (along with that of his wife), the two kingdoms fell back into their long struggle and ultimately ended in Pencoyd swearing allegiance to Ribald the Bear in order to rid them of their rivals across the mountains, and effectively ending the self-governance of Pencoyd which eventually became a barony under the rule of Bradford in the growing nation of Talanthia.
