United Republic of Louth
Structure
The kingdom is officially run by Lord Wescan Nylund, the elven King and patriarch, and beneath him are the various Dukes and Duchesses of the royal family that reside within Farhaven. Together, they act as a sort of Parliament which handles the upkeep of law, while also each managing various aspects of the state's well-being, like tax collection and the military.
Beneath this group are a handful of Viceroys that live in and manage the different territories within the country, keeping watch over the residents there and trying to maintain the region on their behalf. A collection of Mayors and town councils then handle day-to-day management and leadership of the towns and villages within the territory and report up to the Viceroy for their region.
Public Agenda
Though the rulers of Louth are technically a royal family, things have shifted over time into a more political system, with the primary ties to the old ways being that it’s members are still the heads of various noble families due to the natural longevity of the elves. They are devoted to helping the various groups and families within their territories and though they still consist of olden kings and magistrates, they are not beholden to those confines.
Demography and Population
Primarily Elven throughout forested regions, with mixed races among mountainous and tropical zones. Mostly spread out, with Farhaven being the primary urban area.
Military
Overall considered fairly average, the Louthian Armed Guard has a focus on mages, backed by militia and volunteer soldiers.
Religion
Worship of the Seldarine is most prevalent, especially amongst the Elven populations, but various members of the core Azarian Pantheon are worshipped amongst the other races spread around the country.
Agriculture & Industry
Mixed agriculture and industry, due to magical influence on a wide variety of trades. Fishing and farming have been the primary food sources for an extended period of time, leading to significant advancements in those areas (including a booming trade of Vineyards in the southeast between forest and coastal areas).
For livestock, goat and sheep have been slowly gathered and tamed from the mountainous regions and used for milk and cheese, as well as for a more recent prevalence as a meat-stock in the western regions.
Trade & Transport
Primarily involves transporting raw metals in from Hathe along a northern route out of the mountains and into Farhaven before heading elsewhere in the country, as well as sending lumber and finished products back out along one of the four main routes through the country (northwest to Penland, north to Hathe, east to coastal cities and on to Anania and Forden, or southwest to Chalesterre).
Education
How and When: Schools are widespread throughout elven communities, but they’re more free-form than human ones as elves take longer to fully mature into “adulthood”, and so lessons cover a wide range of topics, allowing each child to delve into subjects, choose what they’re most interested in, and then devote whatever time they’d like to bettering themselves in that area. This starts relatively young and extends as far into life as an elf chooses to continue their studies, allowing for a natural transition into scholar-hood or deep magical studies in more collegiate facilities.
How Important: Education is valued, but not required, as elves have a tendency to show natural talent in art forms and crafting, so if a student becomes disinterested in studies but shows aptitude in some other area, they’re encouraged to grow in other ways, either through apprenticeships or independent development.
