Fort Lucia (lew-see-uh)

Built on a small mountain rise, this fortified town is the southern- and easternmost of the five Oestbernia Northern Forts. It was named for King Ott XIV's middle daughter and middle child, Lucia. The town is located on a small mountain that rises above the Northern Forest where it meets the Sinsear Mountains. As one of the forest forts - and because of its location in the mountains - it bears the brunt of ensuring the nation's safety from raiding peoples or roving monsters. As the winter sets in on the northern tundra, the inhabitants migrate south, with many clans of people settling in the mountains for the winter. Fort Lucia must ensure their "hibernation" locations are not too close to Oestbernian territory or connected by mountain tunnels. For this reason, the town's military rangers are split between forest trackers and tunnel scouts.   Due to Fort Lucia's location in the mountains, part of its civilian population are miners that search for ores and gems in the caves underneath the town. The central district has a single mine entrance in a larger complex that houses and supplies miners and mine guards, and this is the only mine entrance for all of Fort Lucia. Besides the miners, there are a few hundred other civilians engaged in a variety of other industries including hunting, logging, and a few farmers who have found ways to cultivate plants on the mountainside using tiered fields.
