Fort Brida (bree-duh)

Fort Brida is one of the Oestbernia Northern Forts that protect the nation from raiders and monsters of the Frozen North. When the towns were being fortified in 24 2A, King Ott XIV named this renovated town after his eldest daughter and strongest child, Brida. Though younger than her brother Albrecht, Brida showed more skill in fighting and managing the royal affairs, making her (as rumors would have it) King Ott's favorite child. He would have had a tough decision to make for royal succession had Albrecht not died young in an accident at a tournament; this cleared the way for the next-oldest child, Brida, to take the throne after her father.   As one of the two fully-forested towns, Fort Brida is pivotal in keeping raiders out of the nation. Raiders and monsters have an easier time sneaking through the forest than they do open plains, so the vast majority of the soldiers at Fort Brida are rangers skilled in forest tracking and long-range combat skirmishing. Its walls are the thickest of all the five towns, it has multiple cannons at all watchtowers, and it maintains a large three hundred foot clearing around its perimeter to better monitor the forest and any approaching forces.   Due to its heavy fortifications and large corps of rangers, there are only around six hundred civilians here, with some of them employed by the military as translators and linguists to try to speak to northern peoples and ascertain which ones might be seeking peaceful resettlement. These migrants are often escorted to Fort Sibilla or Ottberg to begin their new lives once the nation decides they are not a threat to the nation's security.
