Easton (ee-stuhn)
The eastern coast of Ikitur features a dense forest that gives way to a few miles of plains before meeting the Frozen Strait. Within this forest is the town of Easton, the main port and distribution center for two of the forts that defend the kingdom from the undead horrors of the tundra. The port here is choked completely with ice for roughly half the year, and ice breakers are needed for most of the rest of the time.
The leadership of Easton has been silver dragonborn for as many generations as anyone can remember. There are other colors of dragonborn in the town, as well as humans and other non-dragonborn races. There are no roads to the southern part of the kingdom, so most goods come to the town through the port. There are large winterized warehouses that store goods for most of the year, to be distributed to the northern forts in the winter.
Demographics
The majority of the population of Easton are dragonborn, with white and silver dragons making up a significant portion of those, as well as some green and bronze. Humans, dwarves, goliaths, and halflings are also well represented in the town, with at least a few dozen of each race.
Most people in the town work either in the port and warehouse facilities, the timber or hunting industries, or the transportation industries that move goods to the northern forts. The people here live relatively simple and poor lives but have most of their needs taken care of. Apart from the jarl, there are two other noble families in the town, both of dragonborn descent.
Government
The jarl of Easton is a hereditary position that passes through the eldest child of the ruling silver dragonborn Serbro family. The jarl serves for life unless they abdicate due to old age or poor health. They usually appoint a small council of around five individuals from various aspects of the city's industry and populace, though the current jarl has chosen to lead by himself without advisors for the last five years.
As with other cities in the kingdom of Ikitur Kingdom, the judges in the town of Easton are appointed by a majority vote of the seven leaders and can be reappointed for as many years as the leaders wish.
Defences
The town of Easton is surrounded by a sturdy stone wall, which protects its people from the dangers of the oppressive forest. The port facility also has two defensive towers to protect the harbor from attacks. No such attack has ever occurred, but the ballistae that sit atop the towers are constantly ready just in case. A good portion of the city's Watch are trained as rangers to go out in the wilderness and scout for any threats that are approaching the forest.
Infrastructure
The road from the port to the northern gate - the town's central road - is paved and maintained relatively well to provide easy access for carts and horses. Many of the towns inns and the majority of its warehouses are located along this road. The port facilities are relatively advanced, as they have a few dozen small drydocks to store ships during the winter so they do not suffer damage from the ice.
Architecture
The houses and main buildings of Easton are in a somewhat traditional dragonborn style, though made of wood instead of stone. They are simple in form but have several small gems or pieces of colored glass to reflect light from certain angles. A few buildings are done in other styles, brought over by non-dragonborn from other cutlures and lands.
