The Sacred Flask

The sun pierces through the tall, stained glass window of the apothecary as several well dressed individuals pour through tomes and engage in friendly, albeit somber discussions relating to their work. Box like contraptions sit on tables positioned near the walls with little metal arms and pistons manipulating core elements to produce output as seen through their glass display tops.   Tables and stations not in use are clean and orderly, much like the pressed uniforms of its members. On the lapel of several uniforms, the emblem of the organization has been made into a brooch, the center filled with a mysterious liquid.   The Sacred Flask is almost religious-esque in its presentation, from its large cathedral building and aesthetics to the many symbols of flasks as if a holy icon. Even the staff, while friendly, is often reverent in its tone with almost a mystical way of explaining things.   The organization is responsible for a majority of healing or otherwise beneficial potions and flasks, ranging from salves to cure irritants like poison ivy, to concocting a consumable to cause a bleeding stump to heal over, and because of this and their welcoming demeanor, they are viewed favorably by the general public.

Structure

To join

A prospect must present a hand written letter of interest for approval as well as a 'sign of good faith', usually in the form of a potion they've brewed themselves. They must also pay an entry fee.

Remaining Structure

Upon approval by an Expert Mixer, they are deemed a Neophyte and allowed to join, but are in a training phase and must mix based on their senior's orders. They are also allowed three hours of study time to pour over tomes, ask questions, or just watch others work. After several months they are tested by having to mix two potions - One the senior has trained them in and one they've studied on their own for. These are then evaluated and if it meets or exceeds expectations, they are promoted to a Mixer.   As a Mixer they gain access to basic guild supplies like flasks easily found materials. Here they are encouraged to go out into the world and assist the public, take notes, and return with supplies. The supplies needed are not found locally so when they return it's expected that they were gone for some time and experienced and learned quite a bit. They must then spend the time necessary to transcribe their findings into a teachable text and format to submit to the ever growing library. Upon approval by a superior, they are promoted to Learned Mixer.   A Learned Mixer is allowed access to basic a 'alchemy box', which are the boxes making materials within the organization. Although these boxes are not allowed to be moved from the building, the Learned Mixer is trained in how to operate them and expected to demonstrate mastery. After such they are challenged to craft a list of items using only the box. If successful they are to choose their focus of study, either to become a Devotee of the Flask or a Devotee of Elements. Whichever choice, they are given a badge to pin on their lapel to signify this, as well as being deemed a Senior Mixer.   A Senior Mixer gains access to a team as well as a ledger of orders and requests (Based on if they are a Devotee of the Flask or of the Elements) and are expected to fulfill these demands. The final promotion to Chief Mixer is cryptic at best. A Senior Mixer is expected to find and imbue their robes with the 'Tears of the Flask', which is a specific mixture, either into a potion or an elemental combination, that, when poured onto their robes, causes a short-lived glowing effect and changes the very fabric to a softer, silkier, and most regal vestment. The pin on the robe's lapel will also change colors and glow to signify 'being chosen' for promotion. Rare materials and a difficult formula lay in wait for the intended mixture.   Owners are chosen on incredibly rare and exceptional basis.   Special Note: Any members who either were, or are currently, members of Toxins & Tinctures Apothecary are not allowed to join The Sacred Flask. Their views are seen as chaotic and destructive and ultimately not the intrinsic purpose of Alchemy. No amount of repentance will allow someone to change their allegiance to either organization.

Public Agenda

The Sacred Flask considers it an honor to progress and serve the people. It is believed, within the order, that a key ingredient inside of the titular flask is humanity, and by promoting general wellness, they are adding pure, concentrated humanity to the very Flask. Of course they have livelihoods themselves, such as the need to eat, so their services are not free, but the goods they produce are strictly meant to help rather than harm.

Hello, Aevri. I chose this article as second article to read for the reading challenge 2021. I like the article's color palette and it has readable text. I was expecting some kind of magic flask, and was a little puzzled. it took me some time to realise it was about a guild type. :-) (im old and slow) The structure isn't really about the structure (in my opinion). It tells more about the initiation, the joining. The structure would be more like there is one boss, two officers and 5 dodo's that follow the officer, or there are 3 leading figures, no more no less. they are the triumvirate. the 3 vote on every important aspect. and the result will always be yes or no. thats what makes a structure. in your part there is also a structure, but it is hidden in the ritual of joining and inititation. I hope that makes some sense. I liked your article and found some inspiration in it. Good work!
